TITLE: So Into You
SERIES: The PI Guys #2
AUTHOR: S.E. Harmon
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 326 pages
BLURB:
Screenwriter Noah Ashley has a few four-letter words for his agent when she suggests he improve his script by shadowing a PI. Still, because he’s an artist dedicated to his craft and she knows where the bodies are buried, he agrees. Then he spends a little time with the gorgeous PI, and suddenly it seems like a really good plan. The PI doesn’t seem to entirely love the idea, but Noah has never been afraid to go after what he wants.
PI Drew Rodriguez is used to people depending on him. He’s the classic rock for his family. Responsible. Dependable. The classic rock would never succumb to the borderline sleazy temptation of friends with benefits, no matter how sexy that temptation is. Drew is looking for something enduring.
Despite Drew’s misgivings, it’s not long before they’ve got all the requisites for friends with benefits going. Friendly, good conversation? Check. Fun times in and out of bed? Check. Hot, electrolyte-sapping sex? Double check. Falling in love? Yeah. About that….
REVIEW:
So, I’m incredibly disappointed. I want to preface that by saying I do really enjoy how this author tells a story. This particular story didn’t work for me and I’ll explain why in a bit. I just want to stress that book 1 in this series could easily fall into one of my top 10 favorite books of all time, ok maybe top 20. That being said, I had such high hopes for this one. Maybe they weren’t realistic hopes so I set myself up for failure??
With that being said this book was all over the place. There were times I was so confused. Even from the beginning there were lots of people being introduced that I couldn’t keep up with. At times it just drug on forever and I would find myself zoning out. Then when the MC’s started clicking I thought, YESSSS we’re getting somewhere and then MC’s would go weeks without talking then all the sudden they were back together with no real explanation. Unlike book 1, in this book the snarkiness of the characters was too much, albeit funny at times. How is it possible that every single person in the book had the exact same personality; snarky, sarcastic, and slightly annoying?? It just didn’t make any sense.
This book starts a bit after Stay With Me. Drew takes on the job of ushering around screenwriter Noah Ashley. They are like oil and water from the beginning but are immediately attracted to each other. While one vows they’ll never get together, the other swears they will. And the chase was on. And again, normally at the cat and mouse stage I’m really excited and into a story, with this they both were just really frustrating. Drove me nuts.
Overall, as I said I am a fan of this author and I’ve loved loved LOVED her previous book. I just happen to not be a fan of this story. I’m rating this one this high due to the fact that I LOVE Mac and Drew. Their friendship is amazing and they bless every story they’re ever in. Also….Noah and Drew were friggin HOT together. The sex alone was worth a read even though it doesn’t happen for awhile….
I’m off to re-read Stay With Me….
