TITLE: An Alpha in Sheep’s Clothing
SERIES: Alpha Tales #1
AUTHOR: Julia Talbot
PUBLISHER: Turtlehat Creatives
LENGTH: 42 pages
BLURB:
Rand never sets out to find trouble. He’s a lone wolf and he likes it that way. Too bad he always seems to attract the kind of jerk who wants to start a fight, even in a tiny Colorado town where he stops to have a beer. What surprises him when he wins this fist fight, though, is what kind of perks come with the victory.
Tate knows he looks big and strong and that he ought to be able to overthrow the alpha of his tiny, damaged pack. Too bad he’s really more omega than alpha, or even beta, and all he wants it to be a strong wolf’s bottom boy. When the pack tells him about Rand, Tate thinks he might have found the solution to all of his problems. Now he just has to convince Rand to stay.
REVIEW:
Being a member of a pack just isn’t Rand’s style but when he knocks out a loudmouthed drunk in a bar, he finds himself the new Alpha of one. And all he wanted was a damn beer. Anxious to pass the responsibility off to someone else, Rand is instead surprised when he’s approached by Tate with a proposition to stay; he’s even more surprised when he finds himself tempted. Between a former Alpha that just won’t go away and an attractive wolf he can’t pass up, his lone wolf days just might be over.
This was a short story that actually had a lot going for it. The story starts right in the middle of a confrontation so you kind of get to meet Rand on the fly. Despite his protests about wanting to belong to a pack, the man just screams Alpha and can’t help but try and make things better for the members of the pack he’s found himself with. Tate was the real treat, however; he looks the part of an enforcer but couldn’t hurt a fly. While his size and appearance blew the stereotypes about a ‘bottom boy’ out of the water, the relationship between him and Rand was pretty much typical of an Alpha/Omega pairing. What I really liked though was how when it counted, Tate found the ability to fight whereas before he’d never managed to. The sex was also enjoyable and had some BDSM elements that look as though they’ll be expanded on in the next book, assuming it features the same characters. Overall I thought this was an enjoyable start to a new series and I look forward to continuing it; I’m hoping some of my questions about why Rand was a lone wolf will be answered and I certainly wouldn’t say no to seeing him and Tate together again. 😉
