SERIES: Unfinished Business #2
AUTHOR: Keelan Ellis
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 103 Pages
BLURB:
Jess Early and Eli Dunn, owners of Ruth’s Haven Bed and Breakfast, love married life. Every jealousy bump and insecure thought is just another expected growing pain. But with Jess redefining his relationship with his best friend and ex-fiancée Cassie and Eli’s friend Travis staying with the guys while going through marital problems of his own, things haven’t been feeling quite right between them.
Not to forget, the home’s ghostly previous owners, Clay Bailey and Silas Denton, still reside in their former bedroom and delight in making their presence known—including invading Travis’s dreams in an attempt to help. They give Travis a vivid glimpse of their adventurous trip to Paris in the early 1960s and some insight about his marriage.
With tensions mounting, Eli’s father suffers a heart attack. Now Jess and Eli must remain strong and at the same time confront their evolving feelings. The young couple’s struggles become a lesson in the true meanings of love, loyalty and marriage.
REVIEW:
I was so happy when I discovered that the author had written this sequel to I’ll Still Be There. For those of you who missed that book, the review is here.
In Anywhere You Go, we pick back up the story of Jess and Eli, the young men we met in the first book. Jess and Eli are now running the Bed & Breakfast that they opened in the old brothel they bought in the Florida panhandle. The ghosts of Clay and Silas are still there, and the four are still interacting.
I really enjoyed where Ms. Ellis took their story in this continuation. She again did a masterful job of juxtaposing the current day stories of Jess, Eli, Cassie and Travis with the Paris trip of Clay and Silas from the early 1960’s. Again the contrast of the two eras and how gay men are treated in both, led to a really interesting read.
Paris, in the 1960’s wasn’t a place where two men could show affection for each other in the streets, nor was the panhandle. Contrast that to the modern day panhandle of Florida. Still conservative, but in the hospital scene with Eli’s dad, the doctor doesn’t even blink an eye at Eli’s mom introducing the guys as her son and son-in-law.
Speaking of the hospital scene. I really had to laugh, because Eli’s dad asks for them to bring him Five Guys when they come back. When I was in the hospital, I asked my husband for the exact same thing…only in my case I actually got it!
As this story goes on, Travis is staying in the ghost’s room. Will he come to believe the place is really haunted?
I highly recommend this story. I would recommend reading book one first though, as I don’t believe this book would read well as a standalone. You need the background on how the B&B came to be, including the sad story of Clay and Silas and the events in 1968…all of which are part of book one.
I’d recommend picking this fun little ghost story up for a read. Why not hit one click on this one, and its predecessor, today?
