Love knows no limits…but fear could keep them from seeing it.
Gabe lives a double life. As Gabriel Henson, he works multiple jobs to support his remorseless, alcoholic mother. As Tony Ryder, he does internet porn for extra cash and regular safe sex without complications.
Yet when he encounters a scared young man freaking out in a night club, he’s compelled to reach out. Ever since then, the memory of that young man has haunted him.
Tristan Lavelle lives his life thirty minutes at a time. After a traumatic brain injury three years ago, he gets through his day recording his life in spiral notebooks and sticky note reminders.
A month after Tristan’s embarrassingly public meltdown, another chance meeting with Gabe sparks a warm, emotionally fulfilling email relationship. Both men crave more, but fear of the next step stands between them.
Until Tristan gets the opportunity to take part in a clinical trial that could improve his memory—if the side effects don’t kill him. But for Tristan, the possibility of a real life with Gabe is worth any risk…
REVIEW:
I seriously believe that A. M. Arthur books are like written versions of comfort food. I always know when I start one that I’m going to love it, and that was definitely the case with The World As He Sees It. In this second book in the Perspectives series, we get to focus on Tristan Lavelle, the best friend of Noel from The Truth As He Knows It. For those of you who remember, Noel and his friend Tristan were the victims of a gay bashing, which left Noel with permanent scarring on his chest and Tristan with a permanent brain injury which affects his short term memory and makes him forget everything that happened more than 30 minutes previously. He has great long term memory and remembers everything from three years ago, right up to the night of the bashing, but everything in between then and now is a blank.
Also back in this installment is Gabriel (Gabe) Henson. We met Gabe in the first book as well, as the porn star friend of Noel’s boyfriend Shane. Gabe’s two fathers own the nightclub “Big Dicks” which was mentioned and visited in both books. Gabe is still doing porn movies to support his alcoholic mother, but hopes to get out of the industry at some point.
Now it is time for Tristan and Gabe’s story. Can I say again, that I loved this one? In many ways Tristan reminded me of Drew Barrymore’s character in 50 first dates, but instead of forgetting everything each night, Tristan forgets every thirty minutes.
The hurdles these two men, as well as their friends and families go through, made for an entertaining one sitting read. Well…honestly…I had to put the book down for an hour to run to the veterinarian with my cat this morning….and I was kind of pissed! I didn’t want to stop! I rectified that when I got home and read it straight through the rest of the way.
As always, Ms. Arthur does a wonderful job with her characters and storyline. I always feel like I know the characters by the end of her books, and almost wish I could visit them in real life! I recommend this book, its predecessor in the series, and basically anything this woman has ever written!
Take my advice and pick it up today!
