REVIEW:
So darn cute! I’m really excited about this book. I’ll start off by saying that the only reason I chose to read this was because I met the author at a book signing at GRL this year. Though I’m nowhere near reading something from every author I met there, I’m really glad that I took a chance on Zathyn Priest.
Inside His Reflection begins starts out with a country guy, Harry, going to a meet a guy for a blind date. When he sees Elijah, he thinks this is the guy he was supposed to meet, but he’s not at all disappointed when he learns this isn’t the case. Since Elijah is a city guy, Harry thinks Elijah might be too good for him, but he quickly learns how insecure and fragile Elijah really is. The truth is that Elijah has a secret past and was the victim of violence.
Though there are some dark themes in this book, the story wasn’t dark at all. However, I have to advise that since Elijah is dealing with psychological issues caused by a traumatic event in his childhood, there are some triggers with topics such as suicide, sexual abuse, and mental illness. Luckily Elijah has support from those who love him. The story starts out as a romance, but is quickly woven into plots and conspiracies involving the police, the FBI, and a wicked, plotting psychiatrist. Though there are many plot twists and slightly unbelievable occurrences, the story wraps up in the end as the sweet romance it seems to be in the beginning.
I have to admit that I wasn’t sold on this book immediately, but the intrigue sucked me in and by the end I was cooing from the sweetness of it all. Since I tend to judge books by their covers, I really wasn’t expecting such a darling character as Elijah. Even though he was obviously messed up psychologically, he was extremely lovable and Harry never once gives up on him. I also loved that the author made such a likable autistic character. Overall, this book was fantastic. I recommend Inside His Reflection to anyone who loves sweet m/m romance.
