Through a miserable adolescence and a lonely adulthood, Skipper Keith has dreamed of nothing but family. The closest he gets is the rec league soccer team he coaches after work—and his star player and best friend, Richie Scoggins.
One brisk night in late October, a postpractice convo in Richie’s car turns into a sexual encounter neither of them expected—nor want to forget. Soon Skip and Richie are living for the weekends and their winter league soccer games—and the games they enjoy off the field. Through broken noses, holiday decorating, and the killer flu, they learn more about each other than they ever dreamed possible. Every new discovery takes them further beyond the boundaries of the soccer field and into the infinite possibilities of the best relationship of Skipper’s life.
Skipper can’t dream of a better family than Richie—but Richie’s got real family entanglements he can’t shake off. Skipper needs to convince Richie to stay with him beyond winter ball so the relationship they started on the field might become their happy future in real life!
REVIEW:
I’m trying to determine if anyone writes characters quite like Amy Lane. She creates these characters that make your heart hurt and smile all at the same time. At this point I know she’ll gut me but I also know these people and these stories will contain so much magic and the pain’s almost always worth it.
Skipper and Richie LOVE soccer. Their friendship started 6 years ago over soccer. They’re bond is so strong and tight due to the fact that they have so much in common. They hang out, play soccer, game and just generally have a good time.
Lately they both are starting to be more aware of the other. And one night that curiosity turns physical and they realize there’s a lot more between them then just a strong friendship.
Unfortunately, both of these men have significant family baggage and initially are fearful of what coming out would mean in their lives. But every time they’re together the feelings they have for each other are growing and they become unwilling to hide what they mean to each other.
I have never and will never find any fault in the way Amy Lane writes. Like I mentioned she creates magic, in her plots, her characters and her stories this author writes perfection and Winter Ball was no exception. I loved these characters and I loved their bond. I love good guys who’ve dealt with a lot of shit in their lives finally get what they deserve. I love when they find their happiness and that’s exactly what this story gives me…a whole lot of happiness.
If you haven’t guessed….I loved this book, this story, and these men with melt your heart with happiness. I loved it and you will too….GET IT!!!
