Carson is a California transplant settling into life in the Windy City. On his first Christmas away from home, he assures his worried family he’ll be having a real Christmas dinner.
Recent culinary school graduate Tom Stockton earns some extra money giving out cooking advice at the Talk Turkey hotline. Tom’s honeyed voice and sharp sense of humor are attractive to the lonely Carson, and Carson finds reasons to call the hotline again and again. But on Christmas Eve, Carson’s call is less playful and more panicked with the big meal looming. Carson is just looking for advice, but Tom has a surprise in store that might lead to much more.
A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2015 Advent Calendar package “Sleigh Ride”.
REVIEW:
Carson is in a new city, Chicago, starting a new job, the only problem is it’s his first time on his own away from family and it’s the holiday season. His mom is worried he’s not going to have a proper Christmas dinner, so to assure her Carson tells her that he’s making a turkey with all the fixings, which is also a problem cause he has no idea how to cook any of it.
Tom is a recent graduate of culinary school and is working at a turkey hotline for the holidays, when he receives a call from Carson. What starts out as just one person helping another becomes more of a personal connection, although neither of them knows the feelings are mutual.
This is story is just perfect for the holiday season, but could be read anytime of the year. Carson and Tom have a great connection, even if it is over the phone. Bru Baker has written such a cute story that I want to know what happens after the holidays with these two. I would recommend picking Talk Turkey up for a cute read during the holidays.
