BLURB:
No one asked Mitch Seeker if he wanted to be a grim reaper. He didn’t sign up for the rumors, the lack of friends, or the erratic schedule. He doesn’t want to go through life watching people die. Especially not a man he loves. Mitch’s solution is simple—don’t fall in love. He’ll never have to explain why he doesn’t age or why he’s around death so often. Most of all, he will never be a widower.
But when his head is turned by world-class skier Nate Koehn, Mitch believes he may have the answer. If the soul attached to Nate is any indication, Mitch has found himself another reaper, in which case, his undeniable feelings don’t have to be suppressed. However, the spectral tag-a-long is only the beginning of Nate’s burdens. After a catastrophic loss, Nate is no stranger to grief and the hole it leaves behind.
The question they both must answer is loud and clear: is the pain of losing love worse than the pain of never having loved at all?
REVIEW:
So romantic! Mitch is a reaper who has inherited his role through his family line. Though he hates being a reaper, Mitch does his duty, arriving on site when there is a death so he can help the soul move on. Mitch is mostly dismayed by the fact that he will live three hundred years. He hates the fact that he will have to watch any future partner grow old and die just as his father had. If this is the fate that awaits him, he’d rather not fall in love at all. Since a lot of the people in town avoid him due to his strange knack of being around whenever someone dies, his plan of being celibate is working out fine. However, when he runs into a good looking guy, Nate, who has a spirit following him, Mitch believes he’s found another reaper. They start to see each other, but the road to happiness is far from easy.
This was such a sweet and romantic book. When I first started reading I imagined it was going to be dark and depressing; however when Nate came into the picture, everything changed. There was hope for Mitch. Even though that hope was dashed several times, I didn’t give up on the dream that Mitch could actually find the love he was seeking. I was a bit freaked out when they faced danger in the end. I’ve read too many books that end in tragedy that I was afraid this might be the case with this book as well. However, I was more than happy with the ending. In fact the ending was really what made this book such a great read for me. I recommend Reaping Havoc to m/m romance and dark fantasy enthusiasts.
