TITLE: An Ordinary Hero
AUTHOR: Therese Goodson
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 68 pages
BLURB:
As a paramedic, Ryan Bishop has responded to his fair share of bizarre situations. However, he’s not prepared when he meets Phillip, a local man who keeps popping up to save the day. Everyone lauds Phillip as a hero, but he prefers to stay in the background, going so far as to refuse medical treatment.
Ryan is intrigued, not only by Phillip’s unassuming manner, but also by his ability to be in the right place at the right time. Ryan wants some answers and maybe even a date. What he gets is an unexpected part in Phillip’s origin story
REVIEW:
Well, this was a strange one. I don’t really know how I feel about this story. I’m still left with so many questions after reading it which leaves me feeling unfulfilled. I think if this were longer with a lot more explanation on this “power” Phillip has, plus a little bit more background on the MC’s this would have gotten a higher rating from me. I also thought the relationship happened way too fast for me to feel any real connection between them.
Phillip and Ryan have one big thing in common, they save people. They just do it for different reasons. Ryan, being a paramedic meets Phillip on one of his calls. Come to find out Phillip is the hero of the day having saved a little girl form being hit by a car. As the story progresses Ryan is constantly running into Phillip on his calls but he’s noticing strange things like how fast a healer he is and why is he always around saving people.
I won’t give too much away but these two have a connection and decide to see where it goes. There isn’t too much angst in this story and progresses pretty smoothly.
Overall, this was just ok for me. The writing was good however I would have liked more.
