BLURB:
A year ago, my best friend Hal died at the hands of an incompetent “dom.” So I started the Subs Club, a private blog where submissives can review doms and call out the douche bags.
A perfect example of the kind of arrogant asshole I mean? The Disciplinarian. He has a pornstache. He loves meat, stoicism, America, andreal discipline. And he thinks subs exist to serve him.
But . . . not everything about him is awful. His Davy Crockett act just seems like a cover for his fear of intimacy, and part of me wants to show him it’s okay to get close to people. And, I mean, sue me, but I have fantasized about real discipline. Not role-play, but like, Dave, you’re gonna be thirty in four years and you still work in a mall; get your ass in gear or I’ll spank it.
Not that I’d ever trust anyone with that kind of control.
I’m gonna redefine “battle of wills” for the Disciplinarian. Or I’m gonna bone him. It’s hard to say.
—Dave
REVIEW:
So, when I read the blurb for this book it screamed hardcore BDSM and maybe that will come with the subsequent books in the series but this one was not hardcore, in my opinion. And while I know BDSM is sometimes not sex focused, sex doesn’t even happen here until about midway. Now these things I’m only mentioning because it surprised me, in all honesty. Now that is not to say that I didn’t enjoy it, I really did. This is my first book by this author and she had me cracking up. Another surprise, this book is friggin funny, I wasn’t expecting that, not at all.
Dave is still grieving heavily for one of his best friends who died tragically while doing a BDSM scene at a local club. Not only does Dave feel grief but he also feels immense guilt having been in the club at the time of the accident. To deal with the guilt Dave and his friends create “The Sub’s Club” as a place where subs can go and basically rate Doms on their performances in a scene. As a sub, Dave has pretty high standards and is proud of The Sub’s Club and what it’s supposed to do for the community.
Dom Dave (yes, both MC’s are named Dave but Dom Dave is just “D” or Disciplinarian) anyway D loves to dominate and punish and is very much intrigued and attracted to Dave. They agree to do a few scenes to determine if they are compatible. I enjoyed the dynamic between D and Dave. Dave is a brat who pushes and D loves to be pushed. They just really worked together.
I will say I LOVED LOVED LOVED D!!! I gave a whole extra point for D alone. He cracked me up. I loved his whole personality. He is probably the most unique character I’ve read in quite a while. I loved him.
Overall, I did rather enjoy this book. It dragged a bit at the beginning but definitely picked up. I am looking forward to the other books in the series. Recommend!!
