Once again, the holiday season has caught me totally by surprise. I wish I could say this is uncommon, but it happens every year. One minute it’s June, and the next time I look up people are already posting reindeer pictures and Santa jokes on Facebook.
This year, I’m lucky enough not to be working. However my extended family, who were all working on the assumption that I’m always working over Christmas, will be spending Christmas in New Zealand without me. I’ll be joining them for New Year though, which will be great.
They do this to me a lot. Last year they were in Europe, and the year before in Hong Kong. It’s become a family tradition of ours to have Christmas in January when we’re all together again. Usually because my sister, because of her job, can only get time off to travel over Christmas while I, because of my job, usually have no chance in hell of getting time off over that period.
But before anyone feels too sorry for me, please don’t. Like I said, we’re having Christmas in January. And in December I’ll be spending Christmas Day with friends. So I actually get two Christmases! I’m also really looking forward to not be at work, and to spending the evening alone with a glass (or bottle) of wine, and some good books.
Which brings me to the begging part of this post, and how you can help me have a Merry Christmas:
If you had to recommend to me one great MM Christmas or holiday season book (and let’s say you do), which would it be? And what do you love so much about it?
I’m taking all recommendations here!
So, from my scattered family to yours, I hope you have a great holiday season, and a fantastic new year!
Sixty Five Hours Christmas by NR Walker (Really need to have read Sixty Five Hours first). It is just a good fun take on the 12 days gifts, with a big awww ending – and two sexy guys!
Wishing you well for both your Christmases!
Merry Christmas to you too!
I’ve read Sixty Five hours and loved it, so I should really grab the next one!
You’ll love it if you’ve read the first one!
I love the Minnesota Christmas series by Heidi Cullinan. I thought all three books were awesome. Some things I loved were the snowed-in aspect in book 1, the warmth, the kink- particularly in 2, and the interesting MCs in each book.
Merry Christmas! I hope you enjoy your Christmas reading 🙂
Thanks, Pamela! Merry Christmas to you too, and I’ll check out the Minnesota series!
I recently read the Minnesota Christmas series as well and enjoyed them. I also like the North Pole City series by Charlie Cochet , they are light and fun and I like enjoy the twist on the classic fairytales.
Oh! Two votes for Minnesota Christmas! I’m download them tonight. And I also love anything by Charlie Cochet!
I’ll be in New Zealand for the New Years, too! Will you be in the North or South?
I just finished Red Envelope by Atom Yang today, and I loved it. It’s classed as a seasonal story because it is set at the Chinese New Year, which is a winter holiday, but if you want something specifically Christmas that would also prepare you mentally for summer, The Proof is in the Pudding by Nic Starr.
I’ll be on the South Island!
And thanks for the recs. I’m Aussie, so I actually love reading Christmas stories with snow – so exotic! But I also love Nic Starr, so I’ll check those out!
And thanks for the rec for Red Envelope. I was hoping to get a few non-Christmas seasonal recommendations! 🙂
I will also be in the South — specifically Canterbury. I imagine you’ll have a full schedule of family things, but if you have a day in/near Christchurch and want to talk books over coffee (and random internet people are not too scary), let me know!
Hope you enjoy the stories!
Some of my best friends are random internet people! I’ll have to check our schedule, because the trip was organised by my sister and knowing her she has something planned for every day! But I know I’ll definitely be in Christchurch at some point!
If Only in My Dreams by Keira Andrews. Enemies who end up on a road trip across the US together trying to get home for Christmas. So good.
Ooh, that one sounds great too! OF course, I love everything by Keira Andrews!
Merry Gentlemen by Josephine Myles, Lone Star by Josh Lanyon and Fear, Hope & Bread Puddings by Marie Sexton, Going Up by Amy Lane are some Holiday stories that I’ve really enjoyed.
Thanks for the recs! Looks like I’ll be having a very full Christmas after all!
