Oxford University student, Ben thinks a skiing holiday in the French Alps is his idea of hell, so when his best friend, Jonny suggests they spend Christmas there he isn’t impressed. Taking to the slopes like Bambi on ice, Ben isn’t having much luck, until charming bearded beauty, Cal, comes crashing towards him in a flurry of snow at fifty miles an hour. From the moment Cal offers to help Ben get back on his skis, the attraction is instant and Ben is convinced that a man as perfect as Cal is out of his league.
Womanizer Jonny wastes no time asking out a girl he meets on the slopes and he makes her promise to bring along a friend to keep Ben occupied that night in the Après-Ski Bar. When that friend turns out to be Cal, he’s given the opportunity of a lifetime to wine and dine with a man of model like beauty, with a charismatic personality to match.
When Cal invites Ben back to his Cabin, they find themselves trapped in an extreme whiteout and with the men forced to spend the Christmas holidays together, they quickly find they are doing more than roasting marshmallows next to the warm and inviting fire.
REVIEW:
I am a huge fan of Ashley John and couldn’t wait for his Christmas present to us, this wonderful novella, Cabin Nights. What a fun treat to read. I am so thrilled that I am the one that got to read and review it, as it was charming and sweet. I just hope that I can do it the justice it so truly deserves.
Cabin Nights is story of an Oxford University student, Ben, on a Christmas vacation trip to the Alps with his college roommate, Jonny. It is a very expensive trip that he really can’t afford but did not want to disappoint his friend. He also is not a skier and is dragged on this mountain get-away against his will. I personally was so jealous of this opportunity to ski these amazing and epic slopes. His best friend is also raring to get Ben’s virginal “cherry popped”! Jonny has no clue why Ben never “hits it” with the women he sets him up with. The problem is that he has never told Jonny he is gay. He has always worried about how he would react. Through a series of events Ben meets and spends time with Cal, a handsome bear of a man, who works there for the ski season in return for living in a small, rustic, remote cabin. The men wind up at the cabin and get snowed in for Christmas.
Cabin Nights leads us through the events that unfold as these two men get to know and trust each other. Both men are someone that you want to be friends with. They are that person that you would automatically gravitate to because they are that wonderful. You also feel their connection in this wonderfully written story that, even though is only a novella, Ashley John did a fantastic job of character development and back story that is typically left off in a shorter book. You hope for a chance at a budding relationship because they need and deserve to be with each other. I was particularly pleased there was not that rush to hot sex that many novellas have. It did not fit the story or the men’s personalities. He respected who they were. When sex did finally happen it was meaningful and appropriate. The ending was great and I am hoping that Ashley John decides to write a follow up novel of their future adventures to come. I am thrilled to give this wonderful story a shining 5 stars!!! Thank you Ashley for this fabulous adventure.
