TITLE: Fireman’s Flame
SERIES: Cade Creek # 3
AUTHOR: Stormy Glenn
PUBLISHER: Siren Bookstrand
LENGTH: 115 pages
BLURB:
After seven years, Chester Bailey has called it quits. His divorce has finalized and he’s packed up his life with plans to move to Cade Creek. But fate has a sense of humor, which Chester discovers when he’s involved in a car accident just as he reaches the small country town. Rescue comes in the form of the sexiest fire chief Chester has ever seen…and maybe a new love interest.
Fire Chief Jack Helmond is used to being called to the scene of accidents. It’s part of the job. When he discovers a frightened young man pinned in his car, the job takes on new meaning. Rescuing Chester becomes personal.
But Chester’s past refuses to give up so easily. His ex won’t let a little thing like a new lover or even divorce papers stop him from claiming what he believes is his. If Jack has any hope of keeping the flames of romance burning between him and Chester, he’ll need more than fellow fire fighters to help him. He might need all of Cade Creek.
REVIEW:
This is book #3 and the least favorite for me in the series so far. Not because it was bad or poorly written, but because there was a slight corniness to it. I get that Jack wanted to be romantic but the serenade, however sweet, was a bit over the top. But that’s okay.
The series comes along nicely though. Ms. Glenn does a great job of maintaining her characters. The only thing I would kind of like to see is the slowing down of the insta-love, which as I stated in the review of the previous book in the series, is and will probably be, a recurring theme throughout the series. But now that I think about it again, with the books being as short as they are, it makes sense to have the storyline move as quickly as it does.
Chester is a man who is looking for a fresh start in Cade Creek after his divorce became final. His ex husband had a warped sense and desire of what BSDM is and wanted to have that type of marriage with Chester. It just wasn’t something Chester was into or interested in getting into. Chester’s ex wouldn’t leave him be, even after the divorce.
Chester meets Jack, the local fire chief while being pinned in his car after being hit by a drunk driver. Of course, the attraction is immediate between Chester and Jack but Chester has baggage from his marriage and he tends to run; he doesn’t like confrontation.
What I particularly liked about this book was Chester’s best friend Yancy’s (Cowboy Convienience) love of food and Chester’s love of cooking. Chester is the best cook, which works because Yancy is the world’s best eater. I also love how the town comes together to help and look out for their own.
This series has a wonderful cast of characters. Glenn does a lovely job of incorporating the new characters with the old ones from the Blaecleah Brothers series. This creates a wonderful cast of characters that makes this series enjoyable to read. The books are short but that’s okay as you’re able to jump right into the next story right away and not be rung out from reading the previous book. The transition from one book to the next is seamless and the editing issues are minimal.
This is a nice little series to get in to.
This book in the series has mild violence and may deal with issues such as domestic/family violence, physical and or mental abuse so if those are your triggers, I would recommend you skip those parts.
This book is part of a series and as such should be read in sequential order. It is recommended that your read the Blaecleah Brothers Cowboy series as their characters cross over into this series.
