Christmas is Harry’s favourite time of the year, but it looks like he’ll be spending it alone. When it comes to the men he fancies, his luck is non-existent. Harry’s nerves always get the better of him—especially when he tries to talk to Andrew, the hot guy downstairs.
Everything changes when Harry meets a mysterious girl in the woods who professes to be a witch. He dismisses her claims, but when odd things start happening to him, he has to reconsider.
Andrew was attracted to Harry from the start, but their awkward encounters put him off. All goes well until Harry opens his mouth—and ruins it with his stupidity and silly comments. When Harry suddenly becomes more relaxed and they have a proper conversation, Andrew realises his first impression was wrong. As the days count down to December 25, they get swept up in the Christmas spirit and their relationship moves faster than either expected.
A little winter magic might have been the push they needed, but Harry worries that when it wears off, he’ll no longer be the man Andrew wants.
REVIEW:
I am on a roll with these sweet holiday stories! This is another cute one…
Poor Harry, he’s attractive, employed, has a good set of friends, but he needs a man. Unfortunately he also has a case of foot-in-mouth disease and can’t seem to talk to hot guys! This is especially true with his handsome neighbor, Andrew. But someone interferes magically and Harry gets a little help. From a strange woman in the woods. Who gets him to stop and think before he says something stupid. Again.
Andrew thinks his neighbor is hot, but he’s such a jerk! Anytime they exchange words, Harry says something stupid and looks like an ass. Then things begin to change with Harry, and Andrew realizes he’s not a jerk, just shy. Maybe Andrew needs to give Harry a chance afterall!
This story seems like it’s going to be nothing more than a light bit of Christmas fluff, but it actually has more going for it. Not that there is anything wrong with Christmas fluff, I do love fluffy stories this time of year, don’t get me wrong! But this one has a nice paranormal element, which makes it something a little unique and unexpected. It’s full of sweet moments, but also a story of friends. Harry has a nice group of friends that suck Andrew right in, along with a friend of his. They are like a little family group. Fighting, playing, teasing, and interfering in each others lives. The romance between Harry and Andrew starts off rough, gets sweet, has a little drama, and ends perfectly. They are a good couple, with a nice connection. It’s fast, but not insta-love, and worked for the length of the story.
I don’t think I’ve read anything by Annabelle Jacobs before, and I enjoyed this one quite a bit. The writing was good, the paranormal aspect made it more than just another holiday story, the characters were interesting and well done, the basic plot worked given the length of the book, the sex scenes were plentiful enough but not overwhelming, and the ending was great. It was exactly what I want from a holiday romance. If you are looking for a unique Christmas story, I’d give this one a try!
