SERIES: Cade Creek # 2
AUTHOR: Stormy Glenn
PUBLISHER: Siren Bookstrand
LENGTH: 99 pages
BLURB:
Mitchell Walker never wanted anything other than the simple life of a farmer—until he met Elliot Foster, and then his dreams changed. Elliot seemed to want the same thing until the day he disappeared without a word. Two years later, Elliot is back and Mitch has to decide if he’s willing to put his heart on the line again for a man that is afraid to commit.
Elliot Foster found heaven in the arms of a farmer. Family obligations tore him away and put him in hell. When the devil himself seems to have it out for Elliot, he does the only thing he can to protect himself and his family—he runs into the arms of the one man that means more to him than his own happiness.
But the devil has a long reach. When Elliot’s stepfather comes for him, will the men of Cade Creek be able to stop a man who believes he’s above the law or will Elliot pay the ultimate price for loving the Farmer in the Dell?
REVIEW:
This is second installment of the Cade Creek series and this tells Mitchell’s story. Mitchell is Deputy Marc’s brother and a farmer in Cade Creek. He meets then college student, Elliot. Elliot isn’t a resident of Cade Creek but he was there with his college roommate who happens to be from Cade Creek.
There is a recurring insta-love theme in this book but it didn’t feel contrived. Mitch and Elliot are perfect for each other and Mitch knows he found his soul mate. Then one day, Elliot up and leaves without explanation.
Mitch is heartbroken. Not knowing what he did wrong or understand why Elliot took off the way that he did. He decided to move on with his life the best way he can after getting Elliot’s Dear John letter.
Elliot appears on Mitch’s doorstep in the middle of the night two years later with his family needing help. He explains what’s been going on in his life and why he disappeared all of a sudden. He’s on the run from his maniac of a stepfather.
I loved how Mitch wasn’t angry or bitter after Elliot disappeared from his life. He was more confused than anything. When Elliot appears two years later needing his help, Mitch gave it to him, without hesitation.
I think this story has more to do with Elliot’s strength and courage that it is about Mitch. I have no idea if it was intentional or not on the part of the author but it was really nice. Elliot may not have been able to defend himself physically against his stepfather and his goons but he had the heart of a lion.
He and his brother endured horrific physical and mental abuse at the hands of his stepfather yet Elliot took custody of his siblings and ran.
Of course his evil stepfather shows up and tries to kill Elliot and destroy his family but Mitch enlists the help of his brother and the Blaecleah clan to fight him and to protect Elliot and his family.
This book has mild violence and deals with domestic and physical abuse so if those are your triggers, I would recommend you skip those parts.
This book is part of a series and as such should be read in sequential order. It is also recommended that you read the Blaecleah Brothers Cowboy series as the characters cross over into this series.
