First love. Young love. Holiday love… Wish Come True is a collection of contemporary, new adult, holiday short stories by some of our favorite authors!
A Very English Christmas by Keira Andrews
Isaac and David have created a new life together outside the Amish world. Living “English,” they’ve left behind the rigid, isolated community where they discovered their forbidden love. Staying with Isaac’s older brother in San Francisco, they yearn for a home—and bed—of their very own. As they experience the bright lights and merry carols of modern Christmas for the first time, can they make their holiday wishes come true?
Mr Perfect’s Christmas by Joanna Chambers
Sam Warren’s new job hasn’t been going so well so the last thing he’s in the mood for is the obligatory office Christmas party, particularly since Nick Foster’s going to be there. Nick–the guy whose shoes Sam has been trying to fill–seems to take very opportunity to point out where Sam’s going wrong. But when Sam receives an unexpected Secret Santa gift at the party, he’s forced to question his assumptions about his rival. Could it be that he’s been misinterpreting Nick’s actions all along? And is it possible that his reluctant attraction to Nick is reciprocated?
The Christmas Ship by Amy Jo Cousins
When a twink who’s finally ready to grow up accidentally catfishes a college football player headed to the NFL, it’s going to take a lot of honesty and all the faith they can muster in their own One True Pairing to set this Christmas ship sailing.
That Thing by Megan Erickson
Helping his wedding planner sister work an event is not Devin Master’s idea of what he wants to do on his winter break from college. But saying no to his sister isn’t in his wheelhouse, which is why he finds himself embedded in a drama-filled wedding. His first task? Babysit the “troublesome” best man. Adrian Alvarez wants to do just about anything on New Year’s Eve except attending his best friend’s wedding. Ever since Adrian came out, he’s been shunned in his hometown. By everyone but his best friend, Tony. Which is why he finds himself trudging through the airport to fulfill his best man duties. He doesn’t expect to find out his ride to the hotel is a hot blond with a cocky grin. Devin can’t get involved with a member of the wedding party, or his sister will kill him, and Adrian just wants to lay low and not draw attention to himself. But neither can resist the chemistry between them and they have to decide if they are willing to ignite or let their attraction fizzle out.
Just Like Heaven by Suki Fleet
One rainy night in December, David helps a busker with pretty eyes get his stolen money back. He doesn’t imagine the strong attraction he feels is mutual. But after overcoming his shyness, David discovers Jess is definitely interested. Jess just isn’t interested in anything but a one night stand. Or maybe two. Falling for David is definitely not part of his plan. But when David gets trapped in a snowstorm the night before Christmas Eve, Jess realises a night or two is never going to be enough.
Not Your Grandfather’s Magic by Kaje Harper
A month away from Zeb Crowe’s twenty-first birthday — just a month before the ceremony that will awaken his psychic heritage — Zeb’s grandfather predicts cryptically, “Hold your mind and heart ready, and something good will come to you.” Shortly afterward, Zeb meets Matt, a smart, gawky, unexpectedly appealing guy who might warm the lonely corners of his heart. But is Matt really the “something good” his grandfather predicted? And is it fair to get close to him, when very soon Zeb’s whole life will change? If Zeb’s dad wasn’t missing, or his grandfather wasn’t such an enigmatic old bastard, his path to love, or power, would be so much clearer.
Bottle Boys by Anyta Sunday
Benjamin Otto is a bottle of liquid luck. Good looks. Good brain. Whatever the challenge: good odds. Except, what happens when those odds change? Dad’s had enough bankrolling Ben and requests him to get a job. The challenge: make enough money to finance Christmas or face telling his little brother the holidays are dead. Then there’s Sebastian. The guy from his politics class who is always coming in second after him. The guy who steals Ben’s idea to collect bottles for quick cash. The guy who makes Ben wonder if any amount of luck will be enough to win him what he really wants…

Question – What is an especially fond holiday memory from your life?
Keira Andrews – When I was in junior high, my dad pulled off a great surprise. We’d opened all the presents under the tree, and he told my mom to go look in the sunroom, which was all locked up for winter. My sister and I naturally followed, and there was a huge box out there. Inside was a microwave, which was EXTREMELY exciting. This was when microwaves were quite new, and it was such a wonderful surprise that none of us expected
Joanna Chambers – When I was about 8 and I had tonsillitis over Christmas and my Granny spent the whole day pandering to me. She was just the best Granny in the whole wide world and a wonderful person. I wish I was more like her. She didn’t give fancy presents or anything – she was poor as a church mouse her whole life – but she was brimming over with so many riches
Amy Jo Cousins – When I was a child, my parents and aunts and uncles brought us all together every year for a holiday party. The adults would eat and drink and talk while we kids played together in the basement, getting more and more nervous and antsy as the hours passed. Eventually, there would be a loud pounding on the front door and a deep voice would shout, “Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas!” Santa had arrived! A family friend dressed up as Santa Claus every year and came to see us, bringing his big bag of presents and a little black book. In the book, every year, our parents would write something funny/teasing about what we needed to work on during the next year. From “Remember to flush the potty after you go!” for little kids to “Even Sweetness would say, don’t wear your jersey every day!” for my cousin Nick, the Walter Payton football fan who was not a fan of putting on clean clothes. Everyone would gather around Santa and he would read out each kid’s note from the book, before giving us our present. It was joyous and full of love and slightly scary too. Absolutely wonderful
Megan Erickson – New Year’s Eve was a big deal when I was a kid. My parents had friends over and they made a big spread of food. I still have a picture from one year when my dad was dancing with me. We’re both laughing and it’s really special to me.
Suki Fleet – Sunsets in the South of France.
Kaje Harper – My oldest child’s not-quite-first Christmas. My baby was due December 17th, but still had not arrived as Christmas Eve dawned. My parents and brothers had not yet come to visit that year, planning to arrive once the baby was born. So it was just my husband and me, snow outside, a tree covered in white lights, and an aura of waiting. Peaceful, poised on the edge of the wild rollercoaster ride that is parenthood. We knew it was our last just-us-two holiday for years to come and there was sweetness in just being together, and in the anticipation of how our lives would change, any day, any moment…
Anyta Sunday – Every year I have it, and it’s the time my hubby, son and I put up and decorate the Christmas tree. We all get so into putting the lights and ornaments on, and our tree always, always ends up beautifully lopsided with my son’s decorations on his favored side of the tree. It makes me so happy. We also make some of our own decorations to string up too, and every year more memories get made and cherished.
Kanaxa (cover artist) – When a good, good friend of mine came over and we spent 3 days watching Netflix (Hemlock Grove marathon, and a few movies), surrounded by family and cats. It was glorious *le sigh*
Lenore DiTrani (editor) – I don’t know exactly how, but my siblings and I found out there was no Santa Claus way before our parents realised. We didn’t want to spoil it for them, so we’d pretend we didn’t know, and we’d leave Christmas cookies and milk for Santa, and we’d feign surprise when he seemed to know exactly what present we’d wanted. Then, one year, our parents caught us sneaking into the pantry to take an early peek at our presents, and that was the end of that. A bit anticlimactic, really. We thought we’d be able to pretend forever.

thanks for the chance!
The holiday tradition in my family was “mudik” or went to our hometown, visiting the gramps and celebrating the holiday with family, away from the big city. The trip took twice or triple times longer because of the traffic. Somehow, stuff we did or ate at hometown felt double or triple times better, perhaps to compensate over the effort!! 😉
