REVIEW:
Hot on a Chipmunk’s Tail is the newest addition to a fun series, Paranormal Dentistry for the Fanged and Friendly. The series is centered around a small town called White Pine, which is inhabited by all sorts of shifters. The series started off with characters that all work at the dental office (hence the series name), but kind of spread out from there. This one sort of gets us back to the dental office.
Jason is part of the huge chipmunk clan that we have seen in other books, he has left his family and moved to White Pine, and is now working for the dental office as a gopher. Yes, a chipmunk is a gopher!
Jason is very shy and prone to anxiety, especially after nearly getting eaten by a bear. Not a bear shifter, but an actual bear. He was rescued by their neighbor, Will, a mountain lion shifter. Jason has a crush on Will, but is so shy he can’t act on his crush. He takes an offer from his brother, and relocates to White Pine. Will sees Jason’s anxiety but doesn’t know how to handle it. He is attracted to the little chipmunk, but gives him space. He is surprised after not seeing him for some time, to hear he has moved to White Pine. Will has a friend that lives there, so he makes a phone call and makes a move. The two meet again, and a very brief romance ensues.
Unfortunately it was too brief for me to really get much out of. It was too short and too rushed. There really isn’t much of a plot, not much romance, and only one very brief sex scene. But it was still a cute book, with a bunch of fun characters. Lots of the other characters we have read about in past books make appearances, and we meet a couple of characters I imagine we’ll see in later books.
I still like the concept of this world, I like the random group of shifters, there really is a wide variety. I like the rules of this world, the shifts happen quickly, there is no pain in shifting, and the mass of the human doesn’t transfer to the mass of the animal. I like that the traits of the animal are noticable in the human. All of that works just fine for me. I liked Jason and Will, I just didn’t think there was enough time with them on page together to fully develop them as a couple
This book was okay, it was cute and fun, but really didn’t have enough plot to it to keep my interest.
