SERIES REVIEW: Bodyguards Inc. 3 & 4
AUTHOR: RJ Scott
PUBLISHER: Love Lane Books
BOOK THREE TITLE: Max and the Prince
LENGTH: 139 pages
BLURB:
Bodyguard Max Connery is used to being mistaken for being younger than he is.
Being carded every time he buys a beer is usual. Even though he’s just turned twenty eight and has two tours in Afghanistan as a pilot under his belt.
When a threat is made on the life of a prince attending University in the UK, Max is the perfect choice to blend in with the mixed house of students and to keep Prince Lucien safe. Even if it means joining the swim team to be by his side.
But, when death visits the halls, abruptly this job is a long way past keeping the prince happy and safe. Instead Max has to keep Lucien alive.
REVIEW:
Max Connery, bodyguard, former pilot with the RAF, gets a new client as part of his job with Bodyguards Inc. Prince Lucien comes with a nice set of baggage, in the form of one, or maybe two stalkers. He’s convinced his parents to let him attend university at Cardiff, where he’s on the swim team. No one knows he’s a prince, and he goes by the name Luke. The young appearing Max will fit right in, playing the part of Luke’s boyfriend and new swim team member. Max is determined to not only protect his charge, but also figure out who is stalking Luke. Along the way, the two engage in a little sex, then fall in lurve….
I liked this book, but it didn’t have the same emotional impact for me as the last two did. I’m not sure why, there isn’t anything wrong with it, it may have been that I wasn’t able to sit down and focus on it as much as I would have liked, but I didn’t bond with Lucien as much as I could have. I liked the stalker storyline, I really had no idea who the bad guy was until it is revealed, so I liked how that played out. I didn’t see as much emotional connection between Lucien and Max maybe, and there was a little distaction with Jamie, one of Lucien’s roommates. Anyway, I did like it, it’s a good, solid addition to the series.
Although I say Jamie distracted me from Lucien and Max, I was very intrigued by him. I hope we see him again at some point, I’d love to know what happens with him. I did like Max and Lucien as characters, Lucien has just the right balance of innocence and snobbery, which Max has to learn how to deal with. Max was good as well, he was a little harder to read, but I did like him. There aren’t a lot of sex scenes between them, I wish there had been a little more emotional connection, but I did like them.
I am enjoying this series, I’m so glad I grabbed them! I’m looking forward to the next one!

BOOK FOUR TITLE: Undercover Lovers
LENGTH: 128 pages
BLURB:
Even if Ross and Kyle make it out of this alive, will the secrets in Kyle’s heart stay safe?
Kyle gets caught up in a case that is entirely unrelated to Bodyguards Inc. Not only does he abruptly need time off, but he has to have absolute trust and complete support from Ross without being able to tell Ross a thing.
CIA Agent Stefan Mortimer needs Kyle’s help with a case of a geneticist and a missing formula. Trouble is being led right to Kyle’s door, endangering the life of the team he has built and the man that he loves.
Going undercover, with Ross as his fiance, is the worst kind of torture in so many ways, but it is the only answer. Kyle and Ross may well live through this but Kyle is convinced his heart won’t survive.
REVIEW:
Yeah! Ross and Kyle FINALLY get a book…. I’m so happy for them!
Kyle has quite the history. He’s American, was injured in the Army, did something for the CIA, then inherited an English manor house, moved to England and opened his business, Bodyguards Inc. He hired Ross immediately upon meeting him, and the two have had a very strange relationship ever since. Kyle has been in lust, then love with Ross since they met. Ross seems totally oblivious to this fact, but may have some feelings of his own. The two snark and argue, at times not even seeming to like each other. Until Kyle’s past comes to visit and he is forced to ask Ross for help.
Ok. I liked this book just fine, but I will say I didn’t quite get the plot… A man Stefan calls Kyle to ask him to watch over a man named Marcus who is a scientist about to publish a report on something I didn’t understand. Marcus is staying in a hotel not far from Kyle, but the only room available is the honeymoon suite, so Kyle asks Ross to pose as his husband. The two are to go hang out, and watch over Marcus, but not tell him what they are there to do, until some point in time that I also didn’t understand. So most of this book is Ross and Kyle flirting/not flirting, acting as a couple, and stalking Marcus, who is calling himself Paul. Then at the end of the book is an awesome bit of action, and the story is over!
Even not fully understanding the plot, I still liked the book. Simply because I love Kyle and Ross, and their odd flirty relationship. I liked not knowing what was happening between them anymore than they did. I loved when they finally got together, and had some long-awaited sex. I wish we had seen a bit more of that, there was some drag to the story that could have been filled with some hot sex. But overall I enjoyed this story.
RJ Scott is a solid writer, I know what to expect with her and I am rarely disappointed. So far I like this series, and I can’t wait to see Stefan’s story in the next book!
