A warm welcome to author HelenKay Dimon joining us today to talk about her new release “Stranded”
Welcome HelenKay 🙂
A Little Faith
by HelenKay Dimon
I don’t write inspirational romance but admire those who do it well. It’s a delicate balance to get the issues of faith and romance just right against the backdrop of family strife, or suspense or whatever other factors are at work in the book. When I sat down to write STRANDED I didn’t intend to include a faith component. And, no, this book is not inspirational. It is a sexy LGBT romance between two lethal former assassins. But the one hero’s faith does matter to the couple and to the story.
Brax, the younger of the two men, was raised Mennonite. He grew up with a certain mindset and embarked on his career for very specific reasons. He has a calling of sorts. Cabe doesn’t believe in anything. He doesn’t understand how, after all the awful things they’ve seen, Brax can believe in any decency and goodness in the world. The one thing – the only thing – Cabe believes in is Brax. So the fact these two have a terrible past filled with lies and secrets tests Cabe’s belief in even that.
I didn’t pick this faith component at random. I grew up in Lancaster County, PA. The heart of Amish country. A lot of my friends growing up were Mennonite. I thought the belief system worked well with who Brax is and the decisions he makes. Brax’s love of Christmas is just a bonus…and one more thing that doesn’t matter all that much to Cabe. So, as they maneuver their way through the emotional landmines in their past, faith is just one more issue they need to understand about each other. I hope you like the addition.
About the Book
Cabe got out of the gun-for-hire business the hard way—by nearly dying. Except then his former boss calls in one last favor for one final job. The mission should be simple: get a message to a retired operative in Alaska. But it puts Cabe face-to-face with the one man he doesn’t want to see and can never forget. Not after all the secrets and lies. Not after Brax almost killed him.
Brax Hughes lived hard and retired young to a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Well, that was the plan, but before he can hang up his sniper rifle, he has one last mission: win back Kyle Cabe. Brax wants another chance, wants to come clean, but after months of lying to Cabe, he knows he could face a bullet—or worse—when they meet again. And they will meet. Brax made sure of that.
With a storm moving in and someone lurking outside the cabin, time is running out. Brax needs to talk fast and keep his weapons ready. And his best weapon is the truth.

I don’t mind inspirational stories, but my favourite are those that let me feel I am a part of a good story. The suspense, action and intrigue in this story carry the emotional levels of the characters well. It had a great balance of all components and I finished the story feeling I had a great adventure with a good ending.
