REVIEW:
Rainbow Over Cedarwood is the second book that I’ve read in this series and I have to say, it’s almost exactly the same story as that last book. Once again there’s a rush to get the two main characters together but then they exist in this push/pull, backwards and forwards relationship where they seem to take turns doubting whether they should be together. As soon as one of them appears to have made up his mind, the other isn’t sure again, and boy, it got annoying. Especially as I had the same issue with the first book.
Also, it seems to be a requisite for this series that all main characters must have some of the most assholish ex-boyfriends going. It is possible to break up with someone and they not be a complete dickwad. So far that’s four from four of the main characters in the two books that I’ve read. Plus I know that at least one of the MCs in the first book of the series had an asshole ex-boyfriend too. Honestly, by the third book that got tiresome.
But by this point of the series there are also some things that I’ve come to appreciate. Such as the Single Father Support Group. I like the way the stories begin with a lonely single father finding a group who understands what he’s going through. And I also liked that the group wasn’t used in these plots to begin matching up single dads within the group, which seemed an obvious way to go. So far, the group has been all about the dads finding new friends who get how different your life becomes once you have a child. The children themselves are another part that I like about this series. I like romances that include men with children, yet how often are they written as pint-sized geniuses or speak like babies even though they’re meant to be six. This author thankfully gets it right, and even though the kids are present in the stories, they never got on my nerves once.
I was happy to see more of the gay hate group in this book. Which kind of doesn’t make sense, but I figure the more page time these douchecanoes have, the sooner they’re going to get what’s coming to them. I really hope that that story arc is furthered in the next book. And perhaps we’ll get to see the proposed fete day too.
So far this is my favourite story of the series and I’m interested to see how these books continue to develop.
