TITLE: The Sharp Edge of Love
AUTHOR: Diana Sheridan
PUBLISHER: Less Than Three Press
LENGTH: 36 Pages
BLURB:
When he goes to a local Renaissance Faire on Saturday morning, Josh expects to have a good time, but not much else. He certainly doesn’t expect to meet Ethan, a good-looking man in the jousting tournament, or for Ethan to spend the day and night with him. The more time passes the more perfect Ethan seems to be.
But that perfection begins to crumble when he realizes that Ethan is hiding something—and that something seems to have something to do with the recent stabbings in the city that are leaving men blind and horribly disfigured…
REVIEW:
The story begins with Joshua reading the Saturday newspaper, and he reads an article about someone doing a knife attacks. Joshua then decides to go to a renaissance fair. While at the fair he meets a hot guy, Ethan, and they hook up and decide to go to Joshua’s house. The next day, Joshua hears news of another knife attack and starts to suspect that Ethan is the attacker. A few days later Joshua decides to follow Ethan to see if he is stabs anyone.
This story was definitely not for me. Though I liked the atmosphere the author creates, the details about making food and coffee seemed somewhat excessive for such a short story. Although there wasn’t much but kissing, the relationship seemed rushed. One moment they meet at the fair, and within a day or so they are acting as if they were longtime lovers. This seemed unrealistic since Joshua became suspicious of Ethan on the first day and starts suspecting him of being the knife attacker a few days after they met. Additionally, the ending left me scratching my head. Overall, I think the story was rushed. I liked the author’s vivid writing style, so I think I would have enjoyed it much if there was more depth to the characters and passion in their relationship before suspicion set in.
