REVIEW:
This story features a number of women exploring friendships and relationships, from break-ups to marriage, and many things in between.
Unfortunately it also has a huge amount of ‘telling’ as opposed to ‘showing’. There are information dumps, which I assume were dropped in to try to give the reader more backstory of the characters, some of which I found totally unnecessary. I was constantly told what the characters were doing and much of that involved excessive use of adverbs… softly, tersely, audibly, sheepishly, sexily, shakily, teasingly, shrewdly, heartily, and I lost track of the amount of times a character spoke, softly.
Add to that, the fact most of the characters spoke the same, I had a hard time keeping up with who was who. I guess you could say they came across as one dimensional. The story lacked what I call ‘the feels’. I felt no emotion and therefore detached from any events that should have moved me.
Moving on – Given the first line of the blurb states, “Friendship, love and sex” and the publishers website gives this 4 flames, I expected the heat level to be higher, but the sex was mostly off page! What was on page was brief and forgettable.
The author has huge potential and I feel a little sad for her that I couldn’t give a higher rating to a story she clearly poured her heart and soul into. With that said, reading and review can be so subjective so by all means grab a copy of this story. I hope you will be pleasantly surprised and fall in love with the characters and the world Nicole has created.
The story ends with a cliffhanger but in order (for me) to continue with a series I need to have become invested in the characters…which unfortunately didn’t happen in this instance.
