TITLE: Promises: Part 1
SERIES: Bounty Hunters #1
AUTHOR: A.E. Via
PUBLISHER: Via Star Wings Books
LENGTH: 229 Pages
BLURB:
Duke Morgan owns and operates one of the largest bail bond companies in Atlanta. Not only does he bond criminals out of jail, he and his notorious group of bounty hunters will also track them down and ensure they show up for court.
Roman ‘Quick’ Webb is Duke’s business partner and best friend. Both men are in their forties and have given up on the happily ever after with the ranch-style home, and white picket fence. They’d both tried it and failed miserably. But they have their friendship and they have the business.
When Quick’s son, Vaughan Webb returns – after seven years – from studying abroad with his law degree in hand, he’s back to claim what he’s always wanted…his fathers’ best friend… Duke Morgan. Vaughan has always claimed to be a classic gentleman with an old soul. He didn’t party and screw up in school like his buddies. He was focused and dedicated to becoming the man worthy of Duke’s love. It’s a complex and messy situation as Duke and Quick figure out how to still be best friends when one of them is sleeping with his friend’s one and only son. But when Duke is hurt on the job, all the unimportant trivialities fall to the wayside and Vaughan and Quick put their heads together to save Duke.
Part I of the Promises story is about Duke and Vaughan. Part II will be about Quick and his realization that it’s not too late for any of them to find love.
REVIEW:
I’m so happy I saw this book before my co-reviewers did! I’ve been beat out on the last four books from Ms. Via by not claiming them fast enough. She is a VERY popular author with our reviewers. And having had the chance to meet her in person this summer, I’m even more infatuated with her writing.
Ms. Via does an excellent job with everything from developing well thought out storylines to developing characters you feel might be someone you could run into on a street. I always fall into her stories and don’t surface again until I hit the last page.
In Promises: Part I, she brings us the story of Duke and Vaughan. If you haven’t read all of her books, don’t worry. I’m behind a couple that are still in my “to be read” pile and this one references characters from previous books, but is easily read as a standalone start to a new series. While it would help to know the backstory with the other character Judge, it isn’t absolutely necessary. Reading this one though did make me rethink moving the two books of Ms. Via’s that I haven’t read to the top of my “to be read” pile!
Duke runs a Bounty Hunter company with his best friend Quick. Quick has a son, named Vaughan who has had a crush on Duke since he was teenager. Now Vaughan has graduated from law school and is in his early 30’s. No longer a kid. He has told his dad all about his crush and his father actually supports him in it, even though it is his best friend and their ages are quite a ways apart. I thought that was a little bit of a stretch, but hey it worked for them in this story.
When two crack heads attack Duke and he is severely injured will it be too late for Vaughan to tell him how he feels? Will Duke even live through the beating he received?
I highly recommend this book, and all of Ms. Via’s books. This woman can’t write a bad book. I’m a huge fanboy of her work and I want you all to run out right now and hit one click and buy this book. You won’t be sorry! I will be waiting anxiously for Part 2, and I’ve already added it to my review list so no one can beat me to it on our blog! 😉

This one is on my TBR pile. Heard a lot about it! Looks like I need to move it up.
I read this book last week and i loved it. I really like the writing style of this author, she sure knows how to write about Big Alpha Men 🙂 I can’t wait for Quick’s story.
I read this book this weekend. Amazing stuff! It took every emotion I have, grabbed them, and wouldn’t let them go until it was over. And sexy? OHMYGOODNESS!!
I’ll definitely be reading other books by this author.
What book is Judge in?
Don’t Judge (Nothing Special Book 4). It’s really good. 🙂
[…] Promises: Part 1 (Bounty Hunters #1) by A.E. Via […]
[…] Promises Part 2 could easily be read as a standalone, but in my opinion you should start with Promises Part 1 because the characters are the same in both books. In Part 2, our focus moves to Roman “Quick” Webb, the business partner of Duke from Part 1, and also the father of the other MC in that book, Vaughn, Duke’s love interest. The other MC in this installment is Doctor Cayson Chauncey, who performed the surgery that was a big part of Part 1. So enough background, if you need a refresher, check out my review of Part 1, here. […]
