BLURB:
Living in Montana and working the ranch is all Aaron wants to do for the rest of his life. Diagnosed as allergic to the sun thirteen years previous, every day is a struggle to get out of bed. Having to wear long-sleeved shirts, gloves, and even material to cover his face from the effects of the sun, just makes it all worse. Now, in his thirty-second year, he is sure this will be his last summer. While he hates it, he knows he needs to come to terms with the truth and put things in order for his younger cousins. Before he does so, he heads out for one night of pleasure before facing what’s coming.
Jaret loves excitement and new adventures. For over five hundred years, he has sought them out. In Montana on a whim, he comes across someone he doesn’t expect, someone who makes him feel things he does not understand and does not want to give up. In no time at all, he feels like he cannot live without Aaron. The only problem is Aaron doesn’t know who he is, what he is, nor that he isn’t going to die. Not on Jaret’s watch. With a plan to help the other man discover who he is in place, he only has one thing to worry about: whether an ancient enemy will come and destroy everything he now holds dear.
Warning: This book is a paranormal m/m romance with some horror elements. It also crosses cowboy and vampire genres. If you don’t think cowboys look hot with fangs, you’re missing
REVIEW:
Jaret has spent the last five centuries traveling around, enjoying his life, until a trip to the United States changes everything. Running for his life from a local Vampyr clutch, he comes across a scent that’s so enticing he can’t help but follow it to locate the source. Aaron figures he doesn’t have much time left; his sun allergy is getting worse and its almost all he can do just to get out of bed in the mornings. Going out for what he thinks will be his last hurrah, Aaron finds someone he wants to live for and gets way more than he anticipated in return.
I really liked the start of this book; the action taking place really grabbed my attention and made me look forward to what was coming up next. I found, however, that my focus on the story kind of waned shortly after that point. I’d read a little and put the book down and then come back later and read a little more. Thankfully, around half way through the book my attention was grabbed again and I stayed glued to the pages through the end. I’ve read quite a few vampire stories but none quite like this one. These vampires are not *sparkly* and they certainly aren’t the good guys. They’re pure evil and they have the looks to match. Also, I haven’t read many books that focus on any sort of Vampire/Human hybrid like this one did. I found that interesting and I was glad the author included the definition/explanations of the different races at the beginning so that I had the context she intended.
I did enjoy this quite a bit by the end of it and will more than likely continue with the series but I did still have to get through what felt like a lag at the beginning. If you like paranormal stories or are just looking for a new vampire book to read, you’ll probably enjoy this one; if you are like me and find yourself pushing through some of the beginning parts, you’ll probably still enjoy the rest of the book as long as you can keep focused to get to that half
