Hello all! Thank you for joining me today for my monthly author column here at Love Bytes! Today we’re officially kicking off the mini blog tour for Between the Devil and the Pacific Blue, my Halloween release from Dreamspinner press! I’m very excited about this story because it’s a little different to my other stories. It’s a short novella with a lot going on, including humor, romance, mystery, suspense, and a dash of horror.
Although the story takes place in modern day NYC, our setting is the Pacific Blue Hotel, a once glorious and stunning beauty from an era of decadence and debauchery. Her gleaming moldings are now covered in thick layers of dust and the halls—once filled with lively music and frivolous youth—hold nothing more than cobwebs, faded blue-green carpets, and peeling wallpaper.
In this story, our setting is as much a character as its human counterparts. Without the Pacific Blue, there would be no story. I had such a great time writing the setting for this story, looking up old abandoned hotels from long ago, imagining what it would be like if one of these hotels was still opened to the public. There’s more to the hotel than its heartbreaking history and sad state of repairs.
Detective James Ralston has been working the overnight shift at the Pacific Blue for the past six months, and he’s about to stumble upon one of the hotel’s many secrets. For most of his life, James has struggled to find a place where he fits. He’s drifted along, not knowing where he’s going or what he wants out of life. Until he meets Franklin Fairchild, the mysterious and handsome hotel guest who sits and waits for him in the radio room every night at 2 a.m.

Charlie Cochet is an author by day and artist by night. Always quick to succumb to the whispers of her wayward muse, no star is out of reach when following her passion. From adventurous agents and sexy shifters, to society gentlemen and hardboiled detectives, there’s bound to be plenty of mischief for her heroes to find themselves in, and plenty of romance, too!
Currently residing in Central Florida, Charlie is at the beck and call of a rascally Doxiepoo bent on world domination. When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found reading, drawing, or watching movies. She runs on coffee, thrives on music, and loves to hear from readers.
