BLURB:
When Eli Block steps into his parents’ living room and sees his childhood crush sitting on the couch, he starts a shameless campaign to seduce the young rabbi. Unfortunately, Seth Cohen barely remembers Eli and he resolutely shuts down all his advances. As a tenuous and then binding friendship forms between the two men, Eli must find a way to move past his unrequited love while still keeping his best friend in his life. Not an easy feat when the same person occupies both roles.
Professional, proper Seth is shocked by Eli’s brashness, overt sexuality, and easy defiance of societal norms. But he’s also drawn to the happy, funny, light-filled man. As their friendship deepens over the years, Seth watches Eli mature into a man he admires and respects. When Seth finds himself longing for what Eli had so easily offered, he has to decide whether he’s willing to veer from his safe life-plan to build a future with Eli.
REVIEW:
So, this audiobook had me enthralled from the first word until the very last one. I was just taken in by this story and I really had a hard time putting it down in order to work. Sigh. I listened to this book while getting my nails done, grocery shopping, commuting to work as well as being at work. I listened any moment that I could.
I really loved the slow progression of their relationship. They each had so much growing to do and to watch (aka listen) to their story was just so freaking sweet. I loved watching Seth realize that his best friend, Eli was also the only person whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. I loved how Seth went about learning who he is and truly what he wanted. I really just got a kick out of him falling for his best friend. I love the fact that it was a slow progression over time and wasn’t an insta-love kinda thing.
Eli…well Eli is just this great guy who wanted Seth. He wanted to go to college and get his degree and he wanted Seth. I loved watching Eli grow into this wonderful man. I loved the fact that he went to school and he tried dating other people, but he knew that the one for him was Seth. I loved how Eli made the decision that if he couldn’t have Seth as a boyfriend…well then he’d be his best friend that that is just what he became. I loved how he still went on with his life and still harbored his feelings for Seth.
Eli and Seth together are just about the sweetest damn couple EVER!!! I just had to get that out there. I really, truly loved the fact that this book was a slow burn kind of story. It really allowed Eli and Seth to both grow as men as well at for each other. I loved that these two men built a foundation for their relationship and it was so very strong.
This book was so sweet and seriously…low angst. I love that. It was just a really sweet story that tugged at the heart strings as well as the funny bone because….HOLY FREAKING HANNAH…the weddings that Seth officiated…they were a freaking Riot!! I haven’t laughed like that in awhile. I swear…I totally felt bad for him…Seth had been through a bunch of crazy weddings and yet, he was always the consummate professional.
Narration:
Now…Alexander Collins or Mark Westfield…whoever you’re calling yourself…I know that voice. I’ve listened to Mark’s voice from The Thirds Series, so getting to hear him as different characters…it was really nice.
I love the cadence in which Alexander speaks…it’s not to slow or fast. It’s really mellow and calm. I was drawn in and just allowed the voice to flow over me while telling me a really sweet story.
I really loved Alex’s narration. I liked that with each character…there was such personality in his voice. I totally felt like I knew each character and I always knew who was talking, even with saying whose POV they were coming from, I could tell just from Alexander’s voice.
