There’s nothing like a fresh start, and for Randy, still nursing wounds left by a cheating ex and harboring a deep mistrust for all things corporate, Wolf, Wyoming seems like the perfect place to start over. Secluded, quiet, and self-sufficient, Wolf is bound to not only inspire, but to bring Randy the peace he needs. The view’s not bad, either.
Vaughn O’Connell and his family are Randy’s only neighbors for miles, and while Randy knows it’s somewhat unlikely that a man with three kids is gay, it doesn’t hurt to look. When a misunderstanding brings Randy face to face with both Vaughn and his eighteen year old son, Lyle, Randy’s not sure what to feel about either of them.
But things are not what they appear in Wolf, and the closer Randy gets, the stranger the O’Connell family seems…
Genre: Gay, Paranormal, Urban Fantasy
We’ve finally come to the end of the Wolf, WY Tiny Teasers Blog Tour and Giveaway. For those that have followed the tour from the beginning: I hope you’ve enjoyed the teasers and I thank you for your faithful support. For anyone joining us for the first time, hello and welcome!
I’ve introduced a bunch of characters along the way: Randy Connor, Wolf WY’s MC; Vaughn O’Connell and his children Lyle, Isaac, and Hannah. We’ve met Randy’s parents, Mary and Henry. We’ve peeked at a couple of Wyoming communities that the story takes place in by taking a stroll through Sheridan and sharing an introspective moment in Wolf. We’ve even had a chance to meet a couple of members of the local wildlife. So for this last post I figured we should probably get a chance to experience one of the locals that walk on two legs instead of four.
One of the oddest things about small town people is how well you get to know them. It doesn’t matter if they’re doctors, farmers, mayors, or that one guy that doesn’t seem to have a job at all but can still afford to eat at the diner every morning (I think he grows the Mary Jane, your dad will tell your mom assuming that you’re too young to understand; And I think you should mind your tongue, your mom will tell your dad because she’s no fool and she’s more than aware that kids these days are far brighter than they appear to be – did I mention that I spent a couple of years in a small town as a kid as well as my recent stint?), you still know them on a first name basis, you know where they live, and you know what their kids have been up to and for how long. Unlike the city, everybody in a small town becomes a kind of extended family – even the people you don’t really like. They will rat your ass out to your mom, but they’ll also stand up for you if somebody’s trying to take a strip off you. (God forbid that somebody be an out-of-towner.) They’ll give you a dollar if you’re short at the checkout, but they’ll also tell the whole damn town that you were short of funds. They will pick you up if you’re out walking in the rain, and they will bang on your door if your mailbox doesn’t get emptied just to make sure you’re still alive. It’s endearing. It’s also exhausting.
Some days I miss it. Most days I don’t. 😉
Anyway, before I get into the last introduction, I want to remind you that these posts aren’t just about the excerpts from the novel. There’s also a giveaway – a single grand prize that includes a signed copy of Wolf, WY, a $20 LT3 gift certificate, and a Wind & Fire paw print bangle that not only looks cool, is not only manufactured with some very interesting concepts, but that also supports a good cause. Be sure to read through to the end to find out more details on the prizes and how to participate.
So for the final time, please allow me to introduce Wolf, WY’s next character:
Tiny Teaser: Introducing – Doctor Clayton Briar
“I don’t have to tell you this is normal, Vaughn. He’s not the first one we’ve gone through, and he won’t be the last. If there was some kind of drug I could give him to take the edge of, I would, but you and I both know—”
Randy frowned and leaned against the wall. Normal? Drug? What was actually wrong with him, then? It was just a banged up knee, for heaven’s sake.
Vaughn cut the doctor short with a tone that was caustic, even though the reply sounded resignedly practiced. “That if he doesn’t go through it, he’ll never prove his right to own it. I’m not a moron, Clayton. I know this. I also know that we don’t need Randy getting cuffed around and us trying to explain what happened to one of his folks’ city doctors.”
“So you’re worried about the family? Are they around? You think they’d interfere—”
“Of course they’d interfere. His mother is some big-time judge back in D.C. and I’ve seen his father. For Christ’s sake, I watched him come out and snug up the goddamn tires I put on Randy’s truck. Randy’s thirty-two years old and his daddy’s still checking his tires for him. That’s the kind of dad that’s going to ask questions if—”
“City folk get mauled all the time in places like this.”
“Not this one.”
Something creaked—a chair, the floor, the window—and Randy plastered himself against the wall with wide eyes and a thumping chest. But no one came out of the doorway. Nothing moved in the hallway.
“Besides, you know the rule. And an attack on a person is an attack on a person even if it’s not on purpose. The committee will lose their minds—”
“No one here is going to let the committee know if your boy gets a little out of square with an outsider.” The doctor’s voice fell to a level that Randy had to strain to hear. “Not your boy, Vaughn. We wouldn’t let that happen.”

Henley was born with a full-blown passion for run-on sentences, a zealous indulgence in all words descriptive, and the endearing tendency to overuse punctuation. Since the early years Henley has been an enthusiastic writer, from the first few I-love-my-dog stories to the current leap into erotica. A self-professed Google genius, Henley lives for the hours spent digging through the Internet for ‘research purposes’ which, more often than not, lead seven thousand miles away from first intentions but bring Henley to new discoveries and ideas that, once seeded, tend to flourish.
Henley has been proudly publishing with Less Than Three Press since 2012, and has been writing like mad ever since—an indentured servant to the belief that romance and true love can mend the most broken soul. Even when presented in prose.

This story has been on my wish list from the first post.
I’m so thrilled to read that! Thank you <3<3
Good luck with the giveaway. 😀
Ohhhh, that was kind of an ominous excerpt. Thanks for an enjoyable tour.
Thank you, Jen for joining in and I wish you all the best of luck with the giveaway!
I figured I’d go out on a bit of a sly note. I hope it was fun to read. 😀
It’s always interesting to be on the reader in a supernatural novel. You either really know what they’re talking about while the Main Character is still trying to figure it out, or you’re as lost as he is. In this case, we know but still it’s fun to read.
Also liked the doctor. Very calm level headed, straight to the point. And no judgements.
You know back home we referred to small town sociabilities as “Minnesota Nice.” Never rude to your face but always something to say when your back was turned. People did help. I often helped when I worked at the gas station. Gave out free coffee. Let people fill up their tanks without paying (I would pay for them). Some even came back to pay us later.
I do remember this one time after some kids had died after doing drugs. Some others had gotten into car accidents after having drinks in their friend’s memories. Very sad time. I was in the car with my father and he pointed out someone I’d never seen around before and pronounced loudly “He’s the one selling them. He should just get out of here.” I don’t think anyone ever did anything.
That was one town I could write a story about and have no end of characters to work with. Even as small as it was.
You should totally write that story, Jack. I’d love to read it. 😀
Thank you very much for supporting the tour as you have. Your comments have been a pleasure to read. Best of luck with the giveaway! <3
I don’t know. I think I preferred the visitors on four legs. XD
I’ve never lived in a place where neighbors are that far apart. I think it makes most Asian people skittish when that happens just because most of them are used to being stacked one on top of each other. I hate it though, the proximity. It makes my introvert feel like exposed nerves being strapped to the end of a wind tunnel.
So I romanticize things like this in my head all the time. I’m sure the reality isn’t cozy at all, but with the right skills, there’s no reason it can’t be. I think I’ll need to figure out how to grow my own chocolate though.
And coffee. XD
*claps* Thank you for the great tour, the fun, and the giveaway. And I’m so exuberantly happy that I have 3 more to look forward to… hopefully in the very near future. =P
<3
You’re very welcome and thank you for taking part in it!
As for the rural setting I think the quiet is nice for about three months. Then the ghosts settle in and start mumbling to you. XD
Good luck with the giveaway! <3
I’ve enjoyed the posts and teasers. When I was quite young I knew everyone in the houses around and you had to make sure to behaved or else they would be happy to tell your mum or dad what you’d got up to those were the days!
And you know… I think they actually got a kick out of doing that too. Well, I suppose a person has to find some way to keep themselves entertained in a small town. XD
Thanks again for joining me on the tour, Shirley! Good luck with the giveaway. <3
[…] October 21 – Love Bytes Reviews […]
Great teaser, I need to really get a copy of this. After reading cryptic conversation between the good ole doc and Vaughn I’m more curious than ever, lol.
Excellent! I’m so glad to read that! 😀
Seriously, thank you very much. And best of luck with the giveaway >3
When I read this scene the first time something about it surprised me and I could not put my finger on it.
Thank you so much for this post because you just opened my eyes! 😀 You were so successful in making this such a small community and people living far apart that I actually forgot that there ARE other people. Most of all? These are not outsiders. They live their like Vaughn does. And he can relate so much better to them than to Randy.
What surprised me at first was that here we can get a peek at the Vaughn when he does not have to deal with Randy’s greenness.
What I also so love about this scene is that it shows that something much larger is going on in Wolf. 😉
Thank you so much for this amazing and entertaining and fun blog tour, buddy. It has come to an end all too soon. 🙂
<3
You are very welcome, my friend. Thank you for taking the journey with me! <3
What a great tour! Love this post.
Thank you, Julie! I’m thrilled you’ve enjoyed it! 😀
I’ve had a great time reading all the comments and getting a chance to connect with everyone again. You are all very much appreciated. <3<3
I took the entire tour in less than 24 hrs and have totally enjoyed spending the time reading all the tidbits. As I’ve said before I wish you all the success you deserve.
I went to check out Wolf, WY on Google Earth and WOW! that town is almost non existent! I bet If I took the time I’d be able to count the houses LOL! At least Sheridan is a larger town and less than an hour’s travel.
I hope to read this story very soon. Seems quite worth it.
