REVIEW:
When this one came in for review and I claimed it, Dani’s first response was…”you know it is YA correct?” She knows me well, and knows I’ve been reading a lot of really dark stuff lately. What she didn’t know was that I was looking for something different for a change, and found it in Reasons to Love a Nerd Like Me. This was quite a long book in this genre at just over 500 pages, but I thought it was the correct length.
Scotty Williams in a nerd…a gay nerd, and one of the smartest guys in his school. He has never hidden the fact that he is gay and his family has always supported him in whatever he has done. He hasn’t had many issues in the past, but over the last couple years he has been tormented by a bully named Taylor Raven, along with Taylor’s horse faced girlfriend and a couple of shaven headed Neanderthals. The tormenting is getting worse. But there is an ulterior motive behind Taylor’s bullying. There is a lot of history between Scotty and Taylor. Each will do everything they can to keep that history from being discovered! On Scotty’s side that means taking Taylor’s bullying. On Taylor’s side it means a lot of denial, and hatred.
Then Scotty walks right into the school psychopath! A few years ago Scotty witnessed Vincent Hunter slam another student’s face into a desk, breaking his nose and spewing blood everywhere. The other guy had been tormenting Vincent about his father being arrested and Vincent lost it. Now years later, Vincent is the scary guy in the school. People go out of their way to avoid him and Vincent likes it that way. What will happen when the glasses wearing nerd crashes into him in the hall?
I really enjoyed this story. I had times that I wanted to reach in and shake Scotty as he continued to make poor choices, but it all worked out eventually. I highly recommend this story to anyone who likes a Young Adult story which includes first time, coming out, teen angst and drama. I will probably revisit this book later, so I’m definitely moving it into my “read again” pile. (Which could happen if I stop reading so many new books…LOL)

It sounds like a great read from a new author. 🙂 But does it have a ‘good’ ending? And what I mean with that is a HEA or even a HFN.
It has a good ending. No dramatic angst ending like some books I’ve read lately! I think you’ll enjoy it.
Thanks! I wasn’t sure about it but I just got it, will start it tonight. Thanks for the review! 🙂
