AUTHOR: Tygati

LENGTH: 33 pages
BLURB:
On the frontier planet No Man’s Land, Sheriff Charlie Colcord upholds the law and protects the people of Deadwood Gulch. His job is difficult and often dangerous due to the vicious native creatures which inhabit the plains and mountains of Noman, but Charlie and his riders have one advantage: dragons.
But the dragons come with their own difficulties in the way of a secret known only to a few. Charlie is a man used to keeping secrets, and it’s not the dragons’ secret that keeps him up at night. His secret is known to only one other, and keeping it makes their lives complicated enough that hunting monsters on the plains of Noman is almost relaxing.
REVIEW:
No Man’s Land, more commonly known as Noman to those who live there, started off as a colony of Earth until losing contact almost one hundred years ago, leaving the settlers on their own. Now several generations removed, the colony is just now starting to thrive after all the hardships, though there are still plenty of predators to be hunted in order to keep people safe. Sheriff Charles Colcord is one of those hunters, along with his Dragon, Zorevan, and he takes his job and responsibilities seriously; he also has a secret but with the difficulty of keeping his settlement safe, that’s the least of his worries.
For such a short story, this sure did grab my attention! I love sci-fi stories and combining it with Dragons was just completely made of win. I still got a good sense about who the characters are and there was enough information about the world that I had no problems envisioning it. I thought the actions scenes were good and brought home the difficulties of living on Noman and I still got some sexy times so I finished the book a happy girl. Since this is the first book in the series, I find myself looking at this like the first chapter in a serial but it can certainly be read without feeling like there’s anything missing. I’m really hoping the author will show how Charlie and Zorevan met in future installments, especially since it was mentioned briefly. I’m also hoping to meet Charlie’s cousin Jack, the only other person who knows the secret. If you’re looking for a quick fantasy/sci-fi read with the bonus of cowboys, this could be the book for you. I’m really looking forward to the next book!
