Cold Fingers – a love story by Amy Spector
Christopher Minnick is at a bad place in his life. Turning thirty and newly out of the hospital, the last thing he wants to do is attend a birthday dinner even if it is being thrown in his honor.
When he is introduced to a friend’s godson things just might be starting to look up. Or are they?
All the good ones are either married or straight. Or they’re necrophiliacs.
Deadly Sugar – you can never be too thin by Ofelia Gränd
After six years of a relationship going nowhere, Jett has moved away to start over. Maybe his new neighbour David can help distract him from the ache left by his ex’s absence.
David on the other hand has a whole root cellar full of lovers. He doesn’t need another one. And no matter what treats Jett offers, David knows nothing tastes as good as thin feels.
REVIEW:
Just in time for Halloween, this book was just a perfect little nugget of horror and I adored it. There are two stories included in this volume, plus bonus chapters that can be found online but I have to wait for those as they aren’t available to read yet.
The first story, Deadly Sugar, features a man, David, who is obsessed with people being thin and thinks that sugar is pretty much the root of all evil. When Jett moves in next door, reeling from the loss of a six year relationship, he thinks he may have found a rebound in David, but then David finds out he was a Pastry Chef…
This story was just the right amount of Twisted and was deliciously dark. There are warnings for kidnapping and non-con but the only scene I found with that was a little bit of fondling. If that’s a trigger for you, however, you’ve been warned. The absolute best thing about this story, for me, was the ending. It was completely unexpected and I was so surprised that I actually laughed for a moment.
The second story, Cold Fingers, features Christopher, fresh out of the hospital and dealing with a personal loss, and Vic, the godson of a friend who has always had a soft spot for the broken and injured; if only they didn’t keep dying. And then there are the weird questions and the bodies that keep disappearing…
This was another surprise, though the ending didn’t catch me quite so off-guard. I found this story wasn’t as dark as the first but it did make me wish it had been longer so that the entire concept could’ve been explored more. I was particularly interested in the explanation but unfortunately never got it. I don’t have much in the way of horror books but this one has just whetted my appetite for more, and I’m looking forward to seeing if these authors publish anything like this in the future.
