PUBLISHER: Extasy Books
LENGTH: 108 Pages
BLURB:
Nysys is a member of the paranormal council, but he knows no one actually takes him seriously. When Morin Glass asks for help and protection, Nysys takes the opportunity and asks Dominic to be assigned as the man’s bodyguard. He never expects to find out Morin is his mate, but he has no intention to actually tell him. He knows they’re too different, their worlds miles apart.
Morin has taken his father’s place as the head of the Glass Research Company even though he didn’t want to. He’s horrified by what the man has done and intends to work with the council to make things as right as they can. He has a problem, though. A killer is after him, and he needs help.
Nysys and Morin slowly grow closer as the days pass, but the killer is never far away. They also have to deal with Rayford Glass’ trial and hostile council members. Will it be enough to tear them apart before they really have a chance at happiness?
REVIEW:
Unlucky #13? Definitely not, as once again this author gives us another great read in this complex shifter series.
Nysys is an upbeat, over the top, much loved guest at the Whitedell Pride house. He’s also the leader of his Nix tribe and the Nix representative on the Paranormal Council. His clothes, his hair and his personality are in-your-face loud and people can’t help but love him, even while he’s exploding something in the kitchen. But all of that confidence and sparkle is just a front for the insecure, scared personality that is buried beneath. He also feels pretty useless, so when Dominic needs to assign a bodyguard to Morin Glass, Nysys fights for the right to take the job. He never expected to find his mate in the classy human.
The looming evil of the Glass Research Company has finally been vanquished and now it’s time to hold the head of the company accountable. Rayford Glass is going to stand trial before the Paranormal Council and they have agreed that his son, Morin may stand witness. Morin is slowly attempting to fix the horrors that his father committed, but someone is obviously not happy about that and attempts are being made on his life. When Nysys is sent to act as his bodyguard he finds himself attracted to the hot, pink-haired Nix whose body is a canvas of tattoos. And as an added bonus, having Nysys pretend to be his boyfriend means snuggling and touching and lots of affection.
I know…we all love Keenan, but as far as I’m concerned, Nysys stole the show from that sassy human from the moment he entered the series. I’ve eagerly been awaiting this book and his pairing with Morin Glass was not a disappointment. I think that the author made a brilliant choice to stick these characters together. On the surface they don’t seem to suit at all but as it happens, Morin, who is left disillusioned by the actions of his father, has all the sensitivity and insight necessary to see the Nysys hidden beneath the glamour.
Ooh, and the new side we see to Nysys, I just loved it. Nysys has always been a fun character, a perfect tool to use to pop in and brighten up any scene. He was used well as a secondary character, a happy, frivolous buzz in the background or forefront of many situations. But here Catherine Lievens gives him the depth necessary to become the main character and I was surprised but pleased to discover that Nysys’ strength came from pain, rather that the joy he projects. Well, pleased may be the wrong word, but I was impressed that the author presented us with such a complex character.
The scene with Nysys and Morin at the zoo was just too damn cute for words, and will be added to my list of favourite Whitedell Pride moments.
And as always, don’t attempt to read this series out of order or you’ll simply end up with one heck of a headache.
