REVIEW:
Owen Ashby was left paralysed after a car accident and now much to his disgust he has to rely on family and friends for pretty much everything. Owen has lost sight of who he is because he can’t see past the wheelchair he now has to use and because of that is his attitude has deteriorated so badly that even he can’t stand to be around himself! Owen is shocked when Luis, his cousin Royce’s boyfriend decides to take matters into his own hands and organises or Owen to spend time at the Heath Farm. He’s furious and so busy feeling sorry for himself that when Neil, a farm hand, asks him to help feed the horses he’s so shocked he ends up snapping at him.
Neil has an innocence and purity that draws people to him and Owen’s no different. Although he thinks Neil is just humoring him Owen can’t help but feel an almost instant attraction to him. Neil knows he’s a bit slower than everyone else but he’s never let that hold him back, he works with the animals he loves and the people he considers to be his family. Neil is very attracted to Owen but he can’t understand why he’s so angry and sad all the time. Neil can’t help but feel hurt when Owen snaps at him for no reason, when Owen realizes what he’s doing and Neil’s reaction to it he feels so bad he starts watching what he says. It doesn’t take Owen long to come to the realization that Neil is very sensitive to the emotions of those around him, when they feel sad Neil feels sad, when they cry Neil cries and from that moment Owen determines no-one least all him is going to upset Neil!
As Owen and Neil settle into a routine of looking after the horses that Neil loves so much as well as getting to know each other, the difference in Owen is so noticeable his family can’t hardly believe the difference in him, he’s actually likable now. No-one in Pickleville except Royce and his brother Kendrick knew Owen before the accident so they have no comparison but they are all very happy to get to know this version of Owen. Along with the death of Leonard, Neil’s father’s partner who practically raised Neil on the farm Owen accepts a job offer that is going to take them two hours away from Pickleville. It takes a while but Neil comes around to the idea of leaving especially when they decide to buy a farm of their own so Neil can raise his horses.
