Today we give a warm welcome to author Kate Pearce joining us on her Riptide blog tour for new release “Retribution”
Welcome Kate 🙂
I don’t like labels in real life. Probably because having my children labeled as ADD or Asperger’s or disabled, put them firmly into a category. Sometimes being in that box can be helpful, but sometimes it can also be limiting. I extend my dislike of labels into the notion that anyone’s sexuality can be summed up in one word.
I’ve always written my romances with the idea that I’m not going to say a character is straight or gay or whatever. Firstly, because in a lot of my books we’re dealing with historical situations where the modern labels don’t work. There’s also a strange concept in romancelandia that the Victorians or Regency folk didn’t do that sort of thing.
Yes they did. It was just much better hidden because you could be prosecuted and killed for your sexual choices. There were still streets in London where the ‘Mollies’ used to gather and houses where they were welcome. There were even places where a man could go and dress as a woman, no questions asked.
There’s also that concept along with labeling people of telling other people what is okay for them to fantasize about or find sexually exciting. Especially women. Within certain limits, I don’t think anyone has the right to tell me what turns me on. So, as long as I am aware what I’m getting into-hence trigger warnings on books, I should be allowed to read what I like.
Which brings me nicely to the Tribute series and my dislike of being told what it is okay for me to write. It’s set in a harsh futuristic world where the survival of the population is in the hands of a few unlucky criminals and patriots. It’s a no win situation for everyone, but somehow out of the sex and violence, and the sheer horror of what those Tributes have to face come other things.
My characters find love in the most unlikely of places and survive and regain themselves. That’s the kind of book I want to write. Not a romance, not erotica or any other label but an honest-to-goodness love story.

Cheated out of his exit from the Tribute program, Kai Mexr is forced to return as a trainer for one more year. His trainee, Aled Price, is an idealistic Mitan patriot who Kai struggles not to loathe on sight, and who seems up for any challenge Kai sets him. As Aled learns to give up control and endure the program’s worst, Kai is drawn into an intense sexual game that leaves him wanting more.
But then Aled must fulfill his duty as Tribute. He must endure the Ungrich—or die.
When Aled returns, it takes Kai’s ruthless presence to pull his trainee back from the brink of madness. Surviving the Ungrich makes Aled doubt his blind allegiance to his planet—and to everything else he’d never thought to question. But with Kai at his side, Aled finds a new cause to believe in. And with the help of master trainer Akran and his partner Anna Lee, Aled and Kai forge unbreakable allegiances of blood, sex, and love that could save the entire planet from the Ungrich for good.

I’m not a big fan of labels either. My oldest son who is multipled disabled has that label but he has to have it to get the special care he needs, if you know what i mean.
I enjoyed reading your post, thank you for the giveaway chance 🙂

Thanks for the guest post, very interesting. I think we are used to use labels is most things that we don’t stop to think how that affects others or ourselves.

I love the dark and scifi aspects of this series. I very much love the fantasy genres so this is going on my wishlist!
My favorite genre combo is Dark Paranormal Erotica and I am not shy about it. I share erotica authors on my personal fb profile and don’t care what others think. If they do not like it they do not have to follow me. I am who I am and I will not change for anyone but myself. Myself loves to read her porn, dark, dirty, mf, mm, menage, paranromal, billionaire, gritty MC, Mafia, whatever floats my boat. I love to read and review books, it is my thing. I am a disabled mom of 3 in home daughters, 2 school age and the other almost. I am labeled as fat by those that do not know my medical problems. I am labeled as crazy for being an adult with turquoise hair. I am labeled as a porn reader because of the books I read. Screw everyone that wants to label me or anyone else. They need to get a life and grow up, stop looking to put down others when it is them that needs a label: asshole.
Genre-breaking is great, in books and life!

Great post. Labeling is a bit overrated, not everyone falls into one label.

Thanks for having me on your blog. 🙂
Labels are not useful to me. I carry many and most are erroneous.
