Sex. Rebellion. Rock and roll.
Cheyenne is a half-human incubus whose star is on the rise in the Unakite City rock scene. His father, the leader of the supernatural races, would prefer he keep a “low profile”, but screw that. Cheyenne has as much music in his veins as royal incubi blood.
Alexander’s future is all set—finish law school, join the family firm, and marry someone who’d be good for business. Not that he has a say in any of it. He’s barely met the woman his father expects him to marry.
As Cheyenne’s musical career takes off, his carefully constructed life begins to unravel, exacerbated by an ex-lover who can’t let go, a crotchety barkeeper with a dirty mind and a pure heart, a drag queen who moonlights as a nanny, and Alexander—who’s not sure if he’s falling for the incubus or the rocker.
Cheyenne denies who he is, while Alexander hides what he wants. Together, they learn that getting what they truly want means being who they truly are.
Product Warnings Contains hot were-tiger sex, a Thanksgiving celebration that makes the Inquisition look like a tea party, and an incubus who’ll rock your world.
REVIEW:
Well, this was an interesting one. At first I figured it’d be the typical paranormal, demon/ shifter romance. And it is that, for sure, but the difference is the plot totally deviates from the norm. There’s this cool political/monarchy thing going on in the paranormal world that I found fascinating. I also really liked the addition of the children. I know a lot of readers think children kind of boggle things up in stories such as these but I think taking a smokin’ hot, rock n roll incubus and making him a daddy was genius. It totally showed a completely different side to Cheyenne and I loved reading about it. I also liked how this author steered away from the usual “werewolf/vampire” dynamic. There are vampires in the story just not at the forefront.
In House of the Rising Son, Cheyenne, a sex demon is running away from the life he’s always known. He wants nothing to do whatsoever with his overbearing father. Cheyenne has always known music was his calling and he wants to be a rock star. But in Cheyenne’s world things like fame and stardom are controlled by a different supernatural entity. Life is a struggle away from his father’s grasp but he loves it nonetheless.
Alexander has his own daddy issues. His life has been carved out for him at birth and he’s come to accept it. On his down time he finds himself drawn to a local bar and Cheyenne’s band. There’s an immediate attraction between these two but Alexander doesn’t understand the pull. He’s always been straight, never having been attracted to another man. There’s something about Cheyenne that is irresistible to Alexander. These two are smokin’ HOT together. I thought their little “family” moments were a fantastic addition and the side characters I absolutely adored!! Unfortunately, circumstances arise that changes both their fates.
I did struggle with some of the story lines, however. Some of the things that developed were just plain silly, like roll your eyes silly. And the “scorned lover” was completely predictable. So predictable that I skimmed through most interactions with him because you know exactly what’s going to happen. The writing and editing did need a little work but not so much that I hated the story.
I do recommend this story. I think it is just different enough to be really enjoyable. Any fan of the paranormal genre would find this story interesting.
