It’s taken Tommy Newsome a while to get his head around being gay.
Growing up in a small town in Georgia, hasn’t prepared him for the more liberal life of a student at the university in Athens. Add to that the teachings of his parents and his church, and you have one shy young man who feels out of his depth. Working on his daddy’s farm hasn’t given him any chance of a social life, certainly not one like the clubs of Atlanta have on offer. Not that Tommy feels comfortable when he gets to sample it—Momma’s lectures still ring loudly inside his head.
All that changes when he goes to his first gay bar and sets eyes on Mike Scott.
When Mike’s not behind the bar at Woofs, he’s busy with his life as adult entertainer Scott Masters. Twenty years in the industry and the times, they are a-changing. Mike’s not had much luck in the relationship department, but as his mom is fond of telling him, you keep fishing in the same pond, you’re gonna reel in the same kind of fish. Maybe it’s time for a change.
And then a beautiful young man asks Mike to be his first….
Review:
It’s fair to say this book is amazing and Miss Wells outdid herself on this new release.
The story includes everything you could wish for in a good contemporary story. It has a love story with a good foundation, hot sex, some angst, life lessons and a well earned HEA!
You can’t help falling in love with Tommy and his innocence and you just cannot deny the attraction you feel while reading this story, towards Mike.
The story tells us the story of how Tommy carefully tries to find his way into accepting that he is gay and reconciling it with his religious upbringing. Everything he feels or wants he’s been taught to believe is wrong and dirty.
When Tommy finally does something for himself and goes to Woofs, his eye is definitely caught by Mike behind the bar.
K.c Wells carefully sets up a storyline where we as reader are given time to connect with Tommy, time to understand where he’s coming from and the slow steps he’s taking, acknowledging the impact and importance of those steps.
When finally there is more than a look, there is so much there in those words and in their coming together in every way that as a reader I felt like ok this is it. I love how Tommy and Mike get together and I don’t mean sexually (okay, okay not just sexually). I love the conversations and the little touches, the small things they do, the building of sexual tension and experiences
You know something’s coming when Mike still hasn’t told Tommy about his “day job” but the way it is brought to light is so intense, it had me mesmerized. I really wanting to know what would happen and how it would get solved, I mean it would get solved right?
The sorrow, pain and hurt is pouring from the pages and you feel the pain of both men. I for one wanted to crawl in the book and hold them.
The addressing of the porn shoot, and no I am not revealing details, is absolutely fabulous.
Is there not anything to criticize you might wonder? Yes there is. I thought the relationship/bond between Tommy and his parents was too simply told despite the love I have for the way the surrogate mom was introduced and portrayed. Also the end and the epilogue felt a bit rushed and things went very fast at that point.
It didn’t take away anything from how wonderful this story is, however. How well set up it is and what can only be described as a very complete, wonderful story. (K.c Wells thanks some people in the beginning and I for one. being a Max Vos fan, was delighted to see his influence in this book).
One thing I also particularly liked and wanted to address about this story was Scott, and yes I specifically call him Scott, and Jack. Jack, who we learn some stuff about during the story in his talks with Scott, seems to have found his own HEA with someone
But gosh can we please read that story like right the f*ck now!
One final note on the beautiful cover, Miss Wells is known for her excellent taste in men on her covers and that is confirmed anew with this one.
A not-to-be-missed read in this new release by Miss Wells!
