REVIEW:
This book was extremely erotic. Lucas, a lieutenant in the Marines, is introduced to werewolf culture when Sergeant Noah, the only true alpha in the Corp, is assigned to his team. Lucas worries at first that Noah will try to challenge his authority, but instead Lucas discovers that he’s attracted to him. Lucas tries to hide his inappropriate thoughts, but is instead drawn into wolf social dynamics, which leads to sexual interaction between the two. When they deploy to Afghanistan their bond strengthens, but Lucas wants to remain professional and resists reading anything romantic into their sexual unions. However, when they face the danger of war together, they work as a more cohesive team because of it.
I was sucked into this book from beginning. Though Lucas tries to hide his true feelings, the intensity of his desire for Noah makes this book come alive. There is a lot of sex, but I never grew tired of it. Every time Lucas and Noah are together, was a new and amazing to experience. I thought it was strange at first that Noah, who is an alpha, would let someone dominate him, but I thought that this made the dynamics between the two intense and electric. The only part that threw me off was that I really couldn’t see the Afghan backdrop. There are combat scenes and times when they enter villages, but I never saw what the base, the village, the people, or the landscape looked like. Despite not feeling like I was in Afghanistan, the romantic relationship brewing between Lucas and Noah was enough to make me forget about the world around them. I look forward to reading book two in this series. I recommend Strength of the Pack to anyone who loves M/M shifter romance and military settings.
