SERIES: Tales from the Edge Book 6
AUTHOR: L. M. Somerton
PUBLISHER: Pride Publishing
LENGTH: 127 Pages
BLURB:
Love forged in fire is unassailable.
Fireman Salter Beauman, Beau to his friends, has had his eye on cute Marty Standish ever since he helped rescue Marty and his boss from the bombed out rubble of Temple Church. An analyst for the security services, Marty is cute, geeky and submissive through and through—even if he doesn’t know it yet.
With a serial fire starter making inroads into Beau’s life expectancy, he decides that there is no time to waste and introduces Marty to the D/s lifestyle. Marty responds with wide eyes, an insatiable desire to learn and the ability to turn Beau on with nothing more than a wiggle of his slim hips.
But Beau has a second, far more malevolent admirer. ‘See me dance’ is the message left at a series of increasingly dangerous fires. Beau and Marty must work together to catch a psychotic arsonist before their love goes up in flames. Literally.
Reader Advisory: This book contains a scene that includes sexual abuse.
REVIEW:
I like a good BDSM book, I love series…so this book was right up my alley. I really like reading books that even though they are series, can I come in and be able to follow the storyline without having to have read the previous books. I have to say that this book did that perfectly.
Salter “Beau” Beauman is the firefighter who is part of the Edges crew. Beau is former military and is now a firefighter who loves his job and the people he works with. Beau works hard and plays hard. I like that Beau is actually who he is all of the time. He’s an out and proud gay man and I like that no one that he works with has a problem with him. Beau has been in the lifestyle for awhile now and he knows what he likes and definitely who he is!! Beau is a really great guy who loves his friends and takes his job seriously. I love that Beau has his heart set on Marty and that he even waits…6 MONTHS before he even goes after him. I like how he takes his time with Marty. He knows that Marty is submissive and yet, he allows Marty the time to get used to the idea of not only being with him, but with the BDSM lifestyle.
Marty Standish is this really sweet, really smart guy who loves knowledge. Marty comes from a family that is really, really smart and is considered the black sheep of the family as he’s not doing the big money, showing out his smarts. Marty actually is an analyst for a security firm. Well, they all say he’s a civil servant and yet, you get to know that the business he’s really in is deep spy stuff. I love the fact that this really sweet guy who is just adorkable in his geeky ways. I love how when he gets nervous, he starts to babble and pass out knowledge. I liked that he was interested and I really like that he was honest about his intrigue with it. I like that Marty is really smart and yet, he’s got this innocence that just calls to me and I really liked that no matter what, he kept that throughout the book.
I have to say that the mystery/suspense part of the story was very well done. The Prologue totally sets the tone for the mystery/suspense part and it had me hooked. L.M. did such a good job with just giving tiny hints and when the person gets more and more out of control….I was waiting on bated breath to see what would happen. I liked how you were never sure who or when he would strike and this guy was just…something else. He really needed to lay on a couch and talk out his shit because….DAMN he needed it.
Now, the BDSM and the sexy times…they were very well written and you felt the heat between the two main characters. I love me some BDSM and this was nice and not extreme or even very explicit, yet…it was hot enough and just sweet enough to hold my attention and melt my heart a bit.
I have to say that for not reading a lot of L.M. Somerton’s books, this was a nice read. It wasn’t overly dramatic and it was nice to be able to get lost in this story and allow it to take you away.
