He is tasked with learning the potent craft that blends herb lore and magic, but which also marks him as a pariah. After an unexpected encounter drives away the one person Rhynn considered a friend, he flees into the ancient heart of the forest… only to meet the wood’s guardian spirit, who awakens the dormant power within him.
REVIEW:
This story is a magical fantasy with a touch of romance. It begins with an introduction to Rhynn who is lucky enough to be an apprentice to an herb mage. Master Wemmick teaches him about herbs and healing but also teaches him valuable lessons about helping others. It is clear from the beginning that Rhynn has a good heart and I liked him right away. When the story moves to a scene with Rhynn’s best friend, Vareth, I was hopeful that Rhynn with get his wish and find love with him. However Rhynn’S hopes and dreams lead him instead to disaster. After running into the forest, Rhynn has an encounter with a magical spirit that changes him.
I really enjoyed this story. Despite being short, there was a good deal of world building, which made the story come alive. I felt so bad for Rhynn and wanted him to find love, but everything seemed to change for the better in his life after his encounter with the woodland spirit. Though the ending seemed unreal and almost like a pipe dream, I still loved it and was happy with how things turned out. I recommend this story to anyone who loves M/M fantasy with magical creatures.
