AUTHOR: Shelly Connors
PUBLISHER: Publish Green
LENGTH: 189 Pages
BLURB:
It has been four months since Jason Wright’s husband, Jake’s, death. Jason decides it’s time to take Jake’s ashes to their final destination, the Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys. He calls on the support of his friends, twins Kolby and Kaleb Bailey, along with police detectives, R.J. and Dean, who apprehended his husband’s murderer.
Dean finds out the layover to Miami is in Atlanta. The city holds many loathsome memories for the detective, but thinks a couple hours at ATL won’t kill him, or will it? Weather cancelled all of the flights in and out of Atlanta, and while there, Dean mysteriously disappears. A frantic Kaleb calls R.J. to ask for his help finding his missing lover.
R.J. makes it his mission to find his partner and bring him back home safely. As events unfold, everyone is forced to work together and trust each other. The experiences have the ability to either pull them all closer together, or tear them all apart.
REVIEW:
Wow, can this PE Teacher from upstate New York write! I fell in love with Shelly’s characters in “Serve and Protect”, and that love just built in this new installment in the series! I’m going to assume that all of you have read book one by now? If not, what the hell are you waiting for? I don’t give out 5 star ratings for just any book, and “Serve and Protect” wasn’t just any book! If you are not in the know, the link to that review is here.
Now we’re back for book two. The title “Dust in the Wind” refers to the spreading of Jake’s ashes. For those of you who might not have read the first book, Jake was Jason Wright’s fiancé, but through Jason’s mother’s homophobia, their car was run off the road, and Jake was killed in the accident. It is now time for Jason to let go so he has planned a trip to the Florida Keys to spread Jake’s ashes.
Jason asks his two business partners, twins Kolby and Kaleb to go with him and also asks their two boyfriends, Dean and R.J. because they have become very important to him as well. What will happen though when R.J. has to stay behind because of a case, and the group’s stop-over in Atlanta becomes delayed due to weather? Dean fled Atlanta three years before after he was beaten by two other police officers who found him in a gay bar. Now he has disappeared from the airport! Where is he?
When R.J. rushes to Atlanta, will he be able to find Dean? Will the bad guys win and tear this group apart? I would so love to keep going and raving about this storyline, but I don’t want to give any further spoilers. Suffice it to say that I couldn’t put the book down and I was actually cursing Ms. Connors’ name at 1:30 this morning when I finally gave up with 30% left in the book. Of course as soon as I got up this morning I was buried in the book and didn’t look up until it was finished.
I very, very, very, highly recommend this book. Shelly doesn’t do graphic sex scenes, although there is mention of sex. I much prefer her style of writing to many others in this genre for that reason, and I particularly like that she has gay characters and straight characters and their storylines are all interwoven like in the real world. Too many authors in this genre focus only on the gay characters instead of making it real world like Ms. Connors does. Also, sometimes it is nice to read a story for the stories sake, and her story pulls you in and won’t let you go! Her character development and storyline development are flawless, and I can’t wait for the next book. From the teaser at the end of this book, it is going to be good.
Hit one click right now. You will definitely thank me later!
