LENGTH: 184 pages
BLURB:
Two very different men have a chance at happiness, but only if they can let go of their painful pasts and allow love to take precedence.
After spending his teens and twenties raising his son, James Maron is now dating Gabriel Juarez, the wealthy and sophisticated CFO of the TechPrim technology empire. But after a life of proudly holding his head above the poverty line with the ethos of work, priorities, responsibility, and thrift, he is not looking for a Sugar Daddy, he does not need to be rescued, and Gabe’s wealth is as terrifying as feeling love for the first time.
Gabe has never been good at balancing his high-pressure job with his relationships. Money usually clears most of the bumps, and when a boyfriend walks away, Gabe figures it’s for a good reason. But James isn’t like other boyfriends. He doesn’t want Gabe’s money for one, and if Gabe wants to keep his relationship together, he will have to finally face the ghosts of his own past and reconsider his priorities.
REVIEW:
These stories are not what I usually gravitate towards. I like stories that have that explosive passion or so I thought. Nested Hearts isn’t like that at all. There’s always this slow burn and buildup. But that doesn’t take away from how much I really am enjoying this series. There’s just something about this writer and how she tells a story. I don’t know I just really like them.
Bowerbirds begins right where Empty Nests ends with Gabe and James trying to navigate incredibly busy lives while exploring their new relationship. Even though Gabe and James are in a relationship nothing is really stable. Both Gabe and James walk on egg shells around each other. James struggles with giving up control and asking for help. He still is uncomfortable with Gabe’s money and uses it to keep Gabe at arm’s length. Gabe desperately wants to move things to the next level but it’s very apparent James is ready to run at any given minute.
I liked how Gabe and Dylan got closer in this book. You could really feel their bond grow even while James and Gabe went through some rough moments. There was a better introduction to Gabe’s family too it was nice being able to delve a little deeper into both men.
I did enjoy this book; I want that to be clear. I would have liked to see James a little more open to Gabe. I wanted to see a little bit of growth from how book 1 ended but he was still very much stuck in his ways. And like I mentioned this book isn’t full of hot, sweaty man sex but the moments that do involve good lovin’ are DAMN good and made it worth the wait.
I definitely recommend this book and the series. There’s just something so heartfelt about these two men…I can’t wait to read more about them!!
