TITLE: Like a Lover
SERIES: Housemates #2
AUTHOR: Jay Northcote
PUBLISHER: Jaybird Press
LENGTH: 143 Pages
BLURB:
Josh has a plan: get through uni with a good degree and no debts. Focused on his goals, he’s working as an escort to pay his way. He enjoys the no-strings sex and doesn’t have the time or inclination for a relationship. Falling in love definitely isn’t part of the deal—especially not with a client. When Rupert meets Josh in a bar, he’s smitten on sight. He’s never paid for sex before, but when Josh propositions him, he can’t resist. He should have known one night would never be enough. Luckily for him, he has an inheritance to support his addiction to Josh, because his job in IT wouldn’t cover the cost. With each appointment the lines get increasingly blurred. Something is developing between them that feels more like a relationship than a business transaction, but they come from different worlds and to go from client-and-escort to lovers seems impossible. If they want a future together, Josh and Rupert have a lot to overcome.
REVIEW:
For those of you who follow Ms. Northcote and read her book “Helping Hand” earlier this summer, this will be a continuing side story of a character from that book. For those of you who haven’t, don’t worry, it is very easily read as a standalone.
Josh Morley was a side character, as I mentioned above, in the previous book, being one of the roommates that the characters in that book shared a house with. This time he is back with his own story. And what a story it is.
Josh has been paying his way through Uni by working as an escort. He has a fairly good client list, and most are multiple return clients. When one doesn’t show up one night as arranged, Josh makes eyes with a really nice looking bloke across the bar, someone roughly his own age instead of the much older guys who usually make up his client list. Thinking to score a little extra money, he propositions the guy, who after getting past the shock of paying someone to have sex with him, agrees to the arrangement. Enter Rupert Blanchard. The heir of a tidy sum of money when his father was killed in an accident while on holiday, Rupert is basically a lonely guy. He doesn’t have anyone in his life right now, so what could it hurt to hire an escort?
Things quickly get sticky though (no pun intended you dirty minded pervs you!). Ok, for the pervs, yes there is sticky in several different ways (are you happy now?). 😉 What will happen when both Josh and Rupert realize they have developed feelings for each other, but both are afraid to say anything? How will Rupert’s Step-Dad “to be” feel about it?
I really enjoyed this story. It was fast moving and I kept cheering the guys on. It fit well in the series, and as I said it can easily be read as a standalone but I recommend reading both. In case you missed my review for book 1 “Helping Hand”, it is here. Consider picking them up today. Jay Northcote never fails to please, in my opinion. Her books are well written, superbly edited, with very believable characters and storylines. Enjoy!
