AUTHOR: L.A. Witt
PUBLISHER: Riptide Publishing
LENGTH: 313 pages
BLURB:
Eighteen months ago, drummer Jude Colburn made the biggest mistake of his life when he walked away from his band just as they were on the brink of success. Now, he’s got a second chance. The band’s bassist just quit, and Jude plays bass almost as well as he plays drums. The other band members aren’t thrilled, but they are desperate.
Running with Scissors needs him, but there’s one condition: no hooking up with bandmates. That’s what ruined things eighteen months ago, after all. Jude’s on board, but no one warned him about the drummer who replaced him. A.J. Palmer is shy and unassuming . . . until he hits the stage. He gets Jude’s attention from the first beat, and suddenly that “no hookups” rule isn’t so easy to follow.
Keeping secrets on a tour bus isn’t easy either, and it’s only a matter of time before the band catches on. When everything hits the fan, Jude has to choose: a second chance at the career he’s always regretted leaving, or a shot at the man of his dreams?
REVIEW:
Ok, so I like this story but I didn’t love it. I’m on sort of a rock star genre kick right now and this seemed like it was just what I needed. I’m a fan of L.A. Witt’s writing and while I don’t love all of her stories I have fallen in love with quite a few and those few always bring me back for more. This one just lacked that spark that really pushes a book over the edge and makes it hard to put down.
Jude Colburn formed the band Running with Scissors with his childhood friends. As their popularity rose so did their commitment to the band and they started touring. Living in such close quarters affords them certain intimacies between each other and a relationship between Jude and the lead singer Connor develops. Unfortunately this pairing is volatile and unhealthy and Jude strays which results in an explosive breakup and Jude leaving the band.
Flash-forward a year and a half Jude is living his worst nightmare stuck in an office, working 9-5 and utterly miserable. Salvation comes in the form of a phone call from the band manager of his old band. Jude’s needed, on tour ASAP, to replace the bass play who happens to be Connor’s latest relationship victim.
There’s a lot of drama, anger, resentment, and at times full on hatred between Jude and his old band. The only respite Jude get’s is from his replacement, AJ.
A.J Palmer joined Running with Scissors over a year ago in the wake of the Jude and Connor catastrophe. When he finally meets Jude he’s unprepared for the physical attraction that overwhelms him. Knowing hooking up with band members has been a detriment in the past he tries his hardest to stay away.
Jude and AJ were stankin’ hot together. There’s no denying that. I would have loved more sexual interaction between them, more chemistry. I would have loved to have seen a deeper emotional connection too. I did, however like how the band was able to come together. The healing was important but I did miss a certain rockstar flair in this book.
Overall, good solid writing that fans can expect from LA Witt just not a favorite of mine.

Thank you for the review. I have been on the fence about getting this one. Witt is a favorite to read, but I’m not into the whole band thing that seems so popular lately.
It was good…I think if you’re a Witt fan like myself you’ll enjoy it…I just wanted more….
