REVIEW:
One of the great things about being a new reviewer is the opportunity to get to read new-to-you authors. Even more thrilling is when you find one that you truly enjoy. That is definitely the case with author Serena Yates.
Ms. Yates took me on a ride with a long haul truck driver, Joshua “Josh” Becket, as he embarks on an interesting journey with the new owner, Robert Oldfield, of his company, Gordon Trucking. Both men are quick to notice the other in their initial meeting. Robert is the disappointing gay son of the former owners, who disowned him after coming out. He is eager to prove that he can make the failing company that he purchased thrive again. The trucking company is based in Tennessee and being gay in the trucking industry there does not seem to be well received. Both men are fearful of what will be thought of driver Josh, if their budding relationship solidifies and becomes public. I really enjoyed the way that Robert brought the troubled young man, who had been through many disappointments and losses in his life, around and showed him his true potential. It was heartwarming and sweet, the way he stuck with him through their rocky ride, mostly due to Josh’s insecurities. Josh had a tough time coming to believe that someone as handsome and successful as Robert could possibly want him for more than a short affair, definitely not a long term committed relationship. Robert’s determination to make their relationship bloom and grow was admirable and endearing. I will definitely be reading more from this author. I found the story to be interesting and I had a hard time putting it down. I can’t wait to read more of this series from Ms. Yates. I am happy to recommend the book and give this delightful novel a solid 4.0 stars.
