No bank is going to give a nomadic thrill seeker a loan, even if Tom Flynn wants to develop and run a retreat for disabled kids. Good thing he’s finally old enough to pull from his trust fund. However, it would mean settling down—because accessing the money requires him to be married—so he asks his best friend, Luke, to marry him.
Luke Marten’s goal is simple: don’t go on one more crazy adventure with Tom. Knowing how successful he has been in the past, Luke has a backup plan: don’t fall in love. He’s a goner when Tom not only proposes but confesses to one seriously hot kink.
For their friendship to survive this marriage, they’ll need to face DOMA, conservative judges, and long-held beliefs about each other. Talk about getting caught by the short hairs.
REVIEW:
I’m a huge fan of couples being forced together due to outside forces. It usually ends up being incredibly angsty, and passionate. With this story, there were things that worked for me and things that did not. And the things that didn’t work for me also didn’t make much sense so it ended up being confusing as well. I will mention that I think I could read something else by this author. I didn’t hate the style of writing. I actually thought it had a lot of potential but the story line and characters fell short for me.
Tom Flynn lives an unconventional life. He prefers not to do the day to day 9 to 5 but instead travel to different countries working part time to stay active. On his many travels he finds himself on the land of his dreams. Knowing this is where he wants to build his future he needs to get the money to make the purchase. He won’t be able to access his trust fund, however until he is 35 and married. The only person that he can imagine marrying however is his best friend Luke Marten but knows it will be a tough sell.
Luke Marten has loved his best friend, Tom for as long as he can remember. He never thought Tom would be interested in him, mainly because he thinks Tom is straight. So when he proposes this marriage, he’s hesitant but wants to help his friend.
My issues; 1) how did Luke not know that his best friend of over 10 years is bisexual? That just seems farfetched. 2) What was up with all of Tom’s doubt? One minute he was head over heels, the next he thought Luke was using him for his money. 3) I did not understand the Bob and Ashley drama. I didn’t understand the point and I didn’t understand why it was thrown in. These things took me out of the story.
There are a lot of topics that are brought up in this novella. I enjoyed that aspect quite a bit. And like I said overall this story wasn’t for me but there were things that I liked.
