Ember is a drop-dead gorgeous Las Vegas escort. He notices Alejandro in some of the classes he teaches at his side business—a yoga studio. Then, color-blind Alejandro further captures Ember’s attention when he’s blinded by a quick change in light and needs Ember’s help at a club. What Ember doesn’t expect is the way Alejandro touches his heart.
Alejandro never intended to develop feelings for Ember. He’s in Las Vegas for a year to sow some wild oats. But Alejandro quickly sees more in Ember when he sets out to make some of Alejandro’s dreams come true—including a trip to the Grand Canyon and the beaches of LA. Alejandro’s wild oats could turn into something memorable.
Ember knows keeping his escort job from Alejandro isn’t the right thing to do, but he wants to be liked for who he is. Alejandro keeps his own secrets for the same reason. But Alejandro’s family obligations, along with Ember’s profession, could make it impossible for the two of them to stay together—unless they can figure out how to make the most of the gifts they’ve been given.

What makes The Gift different from other Andrew Grey books?
I think that the gift is different in part because of the subject matter. One of the characters is an escort. I don’t usually write about sex workers and I really hope I did them justice. I wanted to make sure that I portrayed Ember realistically and as humanly as possible. I found it very easy to objectify him or to have my characters do that and I had to try to keep that from happening.
I also wanted The Gift to seem like a modern fairy tale of sorts without it coming out like Pretty Woman. I sincerely hope I have accomplished that. Romances are in part about the fantasy and the journey that I, as an author, are able to take you on. I hope that The Gift is slightly different, nut pleasurable journey.
Alejandro was already beginning to think this wasn’t the best idea in the world. The club grew busier by the second. Couples and groups filled the dance floor, but other than a few obvious guys, he wasn’t able to make out anyone who might be single or interested. This was the part of the night he hated. He could never tell who was interested in whom, so unless people came up to him the way Connie had, he tended to stay near the sidelines and watch.
He got up and walked around the edge of the dance floor in search of the restroom and found a small sign pointing down a hallway off to the side. He made his way down and inside. The room was packed with guys waiting and washing up.
Alejandro made out the usual characters. There was the guy staying out of the way, hanging out at the sinks, trying to signal availability. He was most likely a hustler, so Alejandro was careful not to make eye contact. Finally a bathroom stall opened up and Alejandro went inside, then closed and locked the door. Next door were the unmistakable slurping sounds of someone getting a blow job, combined with the occasional flash of knees from under the partition. Alejandro took care of business as quickly as he could, thankful there was toilet paper, and was about to leave when someone knocked on the door. He wasn’t sure what they wanted, but all he was interested in was getting the hell out of here. Alejandro pulled open the door and nearly bowled over the guy who’d been hanging out around the sinks. Without looking at anyone, he washed his hands and then raced for the exit, head down, acknowledging no one at all.
As soon as he left the bathroom, he stepped out into the dark club and couldn’t see a thing. He always had trouble going from bright to dark spaces. His eyes adjusted slowly to night vision. Alejandro took a step to the side and bumped into someone. He excused himself and tried to get out of the way, heading toward one of the steady blobs of light. Then he bumped a table.
“Excuse me, I’m sorry,” he mumbled and stood still. In just a few moments his eyes would adjust and he’d be able to see well enough once again.
“Is something wrong?”
Alejandro knew that voice. He hadn’t heard it much during the yoga class, but it was impressed on his brain. “Ember?” he asked hopefully.
“Yes, and you’re Alejandro. I remember you from my class. Are you all right?”
“My eyes have trouble going from bright to dark places, and I was blinded for a few seconds.” He blinked and the room came into focus. “I appreciate your help.” He’d started to move away from the table when he saw six sets of eyes staring at him.
“Where’s your table?” Ember asked and lightly touched Alejandro’s arm. Alejandro nearly pulled away out of reflex.
“On the far side of the dance floor.” He hated that he had this trouble with his eyes. It made him feel helpless sometimes, and he hated being at the mercy of others.
“I’ll make sure you get there. This place is packed.”
“You don’t have to. I’m okay now.” The words were out of his mouth and he wanted to take them back instantly. Ember was willing to help him get back to his table, but Alejandro had just told him no. How stupid was that?
