REVIEW:
This was a fantastic gay for you book. The story begins when Dan, a rich Israeli business man, gets a divorce and is once again on his own. Dan has never cared too much for sex and doesn’t really know what he wants. He’s starting his new life when he meets Tom, an IDF soldier from America. After inviting Tom to live with him, Dan learns that Tom is gay. This fact doesn’t change anything, and their friendship soon evolves to love. Though Dan understands that he loves and cares for Tom, he still cannot wrap his head around the sexual aspect. Tom finally distances himself in attempt to combat his feelings for Dan. Tom never wanted to fall for a straight guy and can’t handle being friends with Dan when he wants much more than he ever imagined would be possible. In addition to the love affair Dan and Tom have to deal with other hard knocks from life.
This book was extremely moving and romantic. Despite having a lot of telling, I was drawn to the story and characters so much that this fault was very easy to overlook. In fact, I have no other complaint. Everything else was perfect. I really loved Dan’s character and how he doesn’t really understand why he has difficulty enjoying sex. He isn’t particularly drawn to women and he’s never even looked at men before Tom. In his journey to understand himself, he learns that gender plays no part in who he falls in love with. Instead love for him comes when he forms a fundamental connection with an individual. Dan has always thought of himself as straight, so this concept is difficult for him to understand, especially when the person he falls in love with is a man. All in all, Dan’s psychology is magnificent. Tom was also very likable. He was fighting for something he believed in and at the same time trying to live his life free from religious intolerance from his family. Tom is a courageous and sexy soldier, and I loved seeing this couple come together. Reading this book has me wanting to seek out more gay for you themed novels. I recommend Chariots on the Highway to anyone who loves books with religious intolerance themes, coming out themes, and of course, gay for you. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.
