TITLE: The Stepbrother
AUTHOR: Alex Carreras
PUBLISHER: Luminosity Publishing LLP
LENGTH: 94 Pages
BLURB:
When Fletcher Crawford returns to his hometown of Sarasota, Florida from New York City, he feels like a total and complete failure. At his mother’s insistence, he applies and consequently gets a job at Ericson Industries as a managerial assistant/slave boy for a woman who seems to be out to get him for no apparent reason. The only perk of the job, besides the paycheck, is being able to work closely with his high school nemesis who also happens to be his high school crush … and future stepbrother. Of all the people his mother could marry, why did it have to be the father of Erik Ericson who grew up to be super successful, have the looks of a Greek god, and is basically running his father’s company while he is making wedding plans with Fletcher’s mother?
But one thing remained the same after all these years, Erik was still a dick… A dick Fletcher wouldn’t mind getting to know better.
REVIEW:
Living about 40 miles south of Sarasota, Florida, this blurb caught my eye immediately. I like books that take place in locales that I’m familiar with once in a while!
Fletcher Crawford has had a crush on Erik Ericson since high school, but Erik never did anything but narrow his eyes and scowl at Fletcher whenever they came in contact. After all, Fletcher is just the son of one of Erik’s dad’s secretaries after all.
Thankfully high school is over, and Fletcher has long since gone off to NYC to live and work. But regrettably, due to the end of a relationship, compounded by a job loss and a lecherous landlord, Fletcher has run home to Sarasota and he is living with his mom.
Jobs are scarce unless he wants a position with a paper hat and an apron, so at his mother’s urging he reluctantly accepts a position at Ericson Industries. He will have to report to a dragon of woman with ulterior motives, and through her he will have to report to his boss, Erik! To make it worse, Fletcher’s mother is about to marry Erik’s dad and Erik will become his stepbrother! He shouldn’t be popping a boner over his stepbrother, should he? But his new stepbrother appears to be just as much of a pompous ass as he was in high school. He even insists that Fletcher address him as Mr. Ericson!
But is Erik the pompous ass he appears to be? What will happen when Erik asks Fletcher to model a jock strap…and why would he even think about asking an employee to model a jock strap in the first place????? Can the two figure out a way to work together before they cause problems for their respective parents right before the wedding?
I enjoyed the story in the book, and I’m really happy I was asked to review it. This is a new author to me, so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt on a few typos. I would say the writing is better than average and that I liked the book. I think the book could have been a lot better with another 50 pages or so, and some more detail. That said, I look forward to other works by the author in the future.
