BLURB:
Nightmares and panic attacks following a horrific tragedy leave Professor Elliot Lawrence a prisoner in his own home. After months of relying on his sister as his only connection to the outside world, Elliot is desperate for a sliver of independence. But leaving the safety of his home isn’t an option, not yet, and he reaches out in the most innocuous way he can think of: grocery delivery.
Colton Kelly, retired porn star and recent college grad, is struggling at two minimum wage jobs to make ends meet. During one of his grocery deliveries, he meets Elliot. Although the attraction between them is instant, they must first traverse the long road of putting Elliot back together. When disaster strikes yet again, this time in Colt’s life, Elliot’s not sure he’s strong enough to be the man Colt needs him to be.
REVIEW:
It is no secret that I waited a long time for this book to appear. When I read the debut novel of Miss Ashwood, Keeping Sweets I fell completely in love…with the book…with the writing…with everything. I have been following Cate Ashwood ever since but this has got to be the book I was waiting for to finally come from her hand.
So when finally the opportunity struck I jumped on it and started reading. First it is fair to say if you are expecting a book like the first part you will be mistaken, Resurrecting Elliot is a completely different kind of book, holding it’s own story. The only reference you get to the first book is a little flash in the beginning and the fact that of course Colt is one of the main characters in this story.
A shame? Yes if I am honest it was for me. I loved those guys in Keeping Sweets. The family they built, the bond they created and of course Bran and Evan. In preparation for the release of this book I re-read the first part and loved it just as much, so when I realised this book was completely different and also didn’t have many of the characters listed I felt a bit dissapointed. For me the best series are the ones that keep the connection in it, to read and see what is going on.
That being said, this part stands solid on its own two feet. Both Colt, who you just cannot help but love when you have met him, and Elliot are great personalitities, strong characters and they capture your attention completely. Together with the excellent writing of Miss Ashwood that is a pleasure to read through.
We meet Colt when he obviously switched carreers and is trying to make a different life for himself. He is in contact with Bran and Evan and also Ryan he speaks to frequently(On that note, is Ryan next ?). He graduated and is looking for a teaching job, getting dissapointed in the refusals. He needs a job to pay for his living expenses, so he is a grocery courier. One of his stops is Elliot’s house and the two find a connection.
Elliot having gone through a horrible experience, is secluded to the house and besides his sister, nobody visits him. Tentivly the two man form a friendship and grow closer. The build up is nice and I really liked the sweet tender friendship both men form before coming more.
During their friendship turning to romance and even love, both men need to deal with some struggles. Elliot needs to fight his demons and has Colt there all of the way and when Colt get news out of the blue, Elliot needs to find out if he can do the same.
I am not going to spoil it for you so find out for yourself when you pick up this book. From a sister to a pair of brothers, a dad, a passing, a ranch, a college, a job, a past, a love to settling of circumstances one way or another, make sure you find out for yourself.
I surely hope Miss Cate Ashwood won’t make me wait another two years for the next part 😉
