TITLE: Double Down
SERIES: Doubleback #2
AUTHOR: Lissa Ford
PUBLISHER: Self pub
LENGTH: 142 pages
BLURB:
After surviving a deadly attack by a psychopathic killer, homicide detective Rowan Muir is ready to take his relationship with ex-deputy sheriff and former ex-boyfriend Jude Anderson to the next level. Trouble is, Jude is happy with going slow. As in glacial. And, fair enough, their previous attempt as a couple wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. It took murder and the volcanic attraction between them for both men to put old grievances aside and try once more.
But the past rears its ugly head again when Rowan’s drug-addicted brother goes missing. Rowan is summoned home and is immediately mired in family dysfunction better seen in a rear-view mirror. When Jude agrees to help Rowan investigate his stepbrother’s disappearance, Rowan fears his fragile relationship with Jude won’t survive the stress.
Being back in his hometown dredges up old fears, a lot of baggage, and murder. Soon Rowan has to decide if he is going to double down on his relationship with Jude, or if it’s wiser to pick up his chips and split for good.
REVIEW:
Double Down takes place very soon after Doubleback ends. In Doubleback Rowan and Jude were committed to starting their relationship up again. In book 2 things are not rosy between Rowan and Jude. They both struggle with their feelings and communication. I really liked this addition to Rowan and Jude story. It was perfect the way she showed how Jude and Rowan were trying to learn from past mistakes and be better in their relationship this time around.
This book focuses mostly on Rowan; his childhood, hometown, and the people he grew up with. While Rowan and Jude are trying to navigate their relationship Rowan gets a call from his stepmother in regards to his stepbrother, Shane. Shane has gone missing and his stepmother is concerned, thinking he must be dead.
We soon realize that Shane has lived the majority of his life as a drug addict. He also tormented Rowan throughout most of his childhood. There is no love lost between Rowan and his family but Rowan is honorable and he wants to do the right thing so he agrees to go home and help search for Shane. Jude decides to go with him and help. I admit I was surprised with this ending. I wasn’t expecting that….not at all!
I really like Rowan and Jude together. They complement each other so perfectly and just like book 1 they are so friggin hot together. Holy crap!! If two people could make a relationship work on sex alone, it would be these two men. But there is so much more to them then just sex and I can’t wait to see how it continues to unfold.
Great addition! A recommended read, for sure!!
