TITLE: Orion’s Circle
SERIES: Sirius Wolves #1
AUTHOR: Victoria Sue
PUBLISHER: Dark Hallows Press
LENGTH: 156 Pages
BLURB:
According to legend, when humankind is at its most desperate, the goddess Sirius will send three of the most powerful werewolf shifters ever created to save mankind. However, because they are so powerful, they will need a fourth to complete them, to calm them and help them reach their full potential.
Aden, a young were, has been his pack’s omega ever since, at the age of fifteen, he didn’t shift like everyone else. Caught, reviled, and tortured because of his empathic abilities, he knew on the night he was told to run as sport for the pack hunters that it would end in his death. What he didn’t know, however, was that on the same night he’d also meet the love of his life and a pathway to answers, because Aden is far more than just a pack omega.
What begins as a hunt soon becomes a new adventure as Aden discovers that he has not only one, but three destined mates, and his role as lover is far more than trivial. The fate of all humankind rests upon it.
REVIEW:
“An Alpha triad can only form Orian’s Circle when they have a fourth. That fourth has to be special, something unheard of in this world. It is you, Aden, you are Psi. You are our fourth.”
Eighteen-year-old Aden is surrounded by werewolves in the middle of the forest, convinced that this is the day that he is going to die. He just witnessed his parents being torn apart and can only hope that his own death will be as quick. But knowing his sadistic Alpha, Aden is going to seriously suffer before he’s lucky enough to join his parents in death. Before his torture can begin, the pack is interrupted by three of the most powerful and beautiful wolves that Aden has ever seen. One brown, one silver and one black – all three alphas, and all three Aden’s fated mates.
This book probably has me more conflicted than any other book I’ve read in a very long time. Firstly, there is a lot going on. There’s the relationship between the four main characters (including the fourway sex), the problem of Aden’s former pack and the negotiations with humans to incorporate werewolves into the military. Also, there’s information to take in in relation to the legend that the four wolves are said to fulfill and the m-preg to incorporate into all of that.
I realize that this book is the first in what I hope will be an epic series but that is a whole lot of story to attempt to fit into 156 pages. I felt as though every element was only touched on briefly enough to tease the reader with how these storylines may be going to progress but not one element of the book felt complete. And that’s the author’s prerogative, to draw out the drama into the next book but aside from those components that I felt were left too unexplored, there were parts of the story that just plain bugged me. The two most notable were the frustratingly juvenile relationship between Aden and one of his mates, Blaze and the perplexing lack of trauma that Aden exhibited after seeing his parents literally ripped apart in front of him.
But, having said all of that, I really enjoyed this book. What? I said I was conflicted! I’ll admit, I like the stereotypes of the big tough alphas and the scrawny little omega. And the image the book gave me of the three alpha wolves was aesthetically awesome. Mostly though, I loved the difference between this book and most other shifter stories. There were several differences that made this story stand out from the rest of the pack.
This is the first Victoria Sue book that I’ve read but I can see why she has so many loyal fans. Despite the complaints I had about the story, I know I’ll re-read it and I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment.
